Coming along very nice. When you made the cowls did you make a mold for them or just lay them up over the plug : Couple of tips I do Andrew are easy to do. If you make a mold so the outside is smooth put colour in your epoxy, Helps when painting or if you scratch it later. Also if you coat over the plug I have used a big party balloon pushed over the plug after it is coated. If you try one before getting it wet you will see what type of coverage you get. I also find if I can do the ballon thing it cuts down the epoxy. Hope some of this might help.
It looks like you are going to be ready soon.
John

John, if you go back a few posts, you will see my picture of the wooden plug, the glass mold, and two of the glass cowls I pulled of the mold.

I do add white to my epoxy so I can see the thickness...

I never tried that baloon trick, but have read it somewhere... I think in RCM a few years back?

If I was doing one cowl, I would do a foam plug and lay the glass over it. But for more than 1 its easier to make a mold IMO. Also, I can make as many now as I need...

Man this thing is unreal . I've been browsing for a few weeks but I had to speak up. I'd love to hear the engines running-up and see the takeoff. You have to post a video of that!!

Nuker,
There will be a video, as it is part of the design contest to have a video of the plane flying - before April 30th.

It wont however be a ROG, as I have no smooth place to test it. I wil have to hand launch....

Andrew,

Looks like a good candidate for a backup IMAC a/c for Basic!

Good job!

Wow Andrew, that plane is amazing!

I can't believe that you have all that completed so far. The trim scheme looks really good!

Can't wait to see it this weekend

Thanks Brandon, I am glad the covering is done, and I can start installing the gear now...

Jim D - that may be hard, since I plumbed the tanks with a hard line (no clunk) this bird is NOT going inverted... at least not if I can help it!

Here is a shot of the partially assembled bird, with the cowls loosely fit (just to see how they fit over the engines)

Oh yeah - took a final weight with all the gear on the scale, now that the plane is covered...

850 grams = 30 ounces. 2 ounces more than my target weight. Not bad, for a wing loading of 14.4 ounces per squre foot.
