There are several clubs in Sudbury. You are more than welcome to come to our field on Saturday. We are preparing for our IMAC contest the following week so we should be flying all weekend. Go to our web site for directions to the field and welcome to sudbury!

Re: Flying feild in Sudbury

Hi Rob:

Unfortunately, no R/C aircraft hobby shops in Sudbury. The city has hobby shop, but it caters more to model railway enthusiasts and cars, I believe, with only a small amount of R/C aircraft stuff. The closest hobby shop in northern Ontario, that I'm aware of, is in Barrie - Ideal Hobbies.

Cheers,

Peter

Re: Flying feild in Sudbury

There are four active clubs in Sudbury........check the MAAC web site for maps and contacts.I imagine you would be welcome at any of them with a current MAAC card in hand.
No real Hobby shops in Sudbury.........nearest is Ideal in Barrie. Most Modellers in Sudbury deal with the mail order outfits or have good friends in the Soo.

Re: Flying feild in Sudbury

Flying clubs in Sudbury are like dandelions here in Timmins... every day a new one pops up

I kid, I kid!

For a city of that size, you have four clubs to choose from. SMAC is just of off the highway 17, as you approach the city.

GSM is in Hanmer, just about a 20 minute drive north of the SMAC field.

GWNM is in Azilda, about a 15 minute drive north of the city of Sudbury, on HW144.

The Cambrian field is also in Azilda if I am not mistaken, it is the newest and I have not been there yet.

All clubs have some great people in them, and I am sure they would welcome out of towners... they let us Timmins guys on the property so I guess they would let anyone in!

Depending upon what you want to fly, the various fields have differing layouts, approaches, etc. But they are all nice fields.

AJC

I have bought some stuff from the Sudbury hobby shop... he does have some supplies, dubro and so forth, a good selection of K&S metal and tubing, building supplies and paint, and some heli stuff.

It is MUCH better than what is available in many other communities, including Timmins!
