Shipping via Fedex from UK?
HI,
I'm thinking about getting the Phoenix flight sim but because the UK manufacturer and the USA/Canadian distributor are not in agreement you have to order directly from the UK. Shipping cost is reasonable with a quick delivery time, but they ship via Fedex. I've read about UPS high additional brokerage fees and was wondering by shipping via Fedex, I can expect these same additionalbrokerage fees on an $180 package. If anyone has received parcels from the UK shipped by Fedex, please share your experiences, both good and bad. Thanks, Dave |

Hi Dave,
Fedex brokerage fee is reasonable. I called them a day before yesterday for a package coming from states, I was told $6.50 upto a $40 value, then goes upto $19 for $75. I asked her to email me the breakdown, she agreed, but I never got the email. You can call Fedex cust support and ask the question, they will let you know exactly.

Thanks for the very quick replies.
Just called Fedex and was told that because it's coming from the UK, it's considered an express shipment and the brokerage fee is included in shipping cost. The only extra would be the taxes. Thanks again RCC members, Dave |

Don't forget to check on the shipping cost as well.
In some cases, FedEx is the highest. However, in my experience, when it's absolutely, postively got to get there by a certain time, they can't be beat. |

Seems like your pretty much with shippingok things into and out of the country as long as you don't use UPS, every other company I have used(FedEx, and USPS) only charged the taxes.

Order from the UK all the time, fedex as well. Quick and low fees and as mentioned no tax or duty as yes being part of the commonwealth is nice when dealing with UK for hobby stuff. I get stuff from Revolution Models UK in about 4 days tops to my door! Faster most times than from Great Hobbies which is a 6 hour drive.

You might consider checking on regular postage fees (air NOT surface).
If they don't ship via Royal Mail, only Fedex, try to find a friend or family member in the UK to accept the package, then ship it to you via regualr mail, insured and traced. Of course, I'd also check to see if this is really cost-effective or worth the extra hassles involved. Not sure that the problem with the US/Canadian rep is, but you can always ask to see what it takes to become a distributor and who you have to deal with. Might be a way of getting a bit more gelt to pay for the hobbby..... |

Just an update.
I placed my order late on the 24th and the next mourning, received an email from FedEx with the tracking number and also estimating delivery by 5:00PM on the 28th. Tracked it all weekend and sure enough by 1:30PM it arrived on the 28th. Sadly, no one was home to sign for it and pay about $16 in taxes, but they did leave a form that I could sign and leave along with taxes owing for today's return visit. Got home tonight to find my parcel in the door. Great service from FedEx and shipping cost was only $9.80. It would have cost me more to drive to my LHS, if I could have got it there. Dave |
