They recommend a 26cc but I am concerned about having enough power.

Thanks for looking.
I'd try and get a new style gasser (light weight) in th 35cc size myself. I think the 26cc could be marginal

At 25cc and less, you will not beat a glow engine on either power output or weight, unless the laws of physics change. There is also less bulk and less complexity.
I agree with you that 10lbs is the high side for the 26cc size engine. I have this plane: http://www.valleyviewrc.com/Sukhoi%20Su-26m.htm. Its roughly the same as the Great Hobbies 70" Yak and Extra in specs (it's also the same mfg). My weight is 9lbs13ozs. I'm flying with the CRRC 26cc for IMAC and 3D style flight which includes frequent vertical uplines. I will tell you that swinging a 18x6 or 17x8 prop it has unlimited vertical. I think a .90 size would not pull this plane around as well. They recommend a 1.20 to 1.60 glow.

That said, yes, gas has more accessories and gadgets to set up inside the plane for the ignition. Yes, glow engines probably have better to power ratio too. However, I don't know why, but gas just has that x-factor that makes it great. I toss my plane in the car with a jug of gas, a screwdriver, and a single right-handed glove, thats all I need to bring to the field. Alot of people at my field are flying gas and electrics only and that trend is increasing.

If you have all the glow accessories and are knowledgeable about the engines then sure go with it, but if you want try a gasser at a good price point, you will be very satisified with a 26cc engine in that size plane.

Regards,
Jeff

Re: Engine for 70" Yak

Gents,

Thanks for the votes and opinions. I am considering all that is written very carefully.
Please keep the votes coming. As far as the electric option that was mentioned, I have tried smaller electrics, and thanks, but I am not really into the electric thing. Still between Glas & Glow...

Thanks again,
NewGuy

Re: Engine for 70" Yak

Looks like the O.S. 160 so far is the most popular choice.

Please keep the poll counting.

Thanks,
