Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

Here are the pictures of my 80's Webra Speed .61 rebuild. I should have taken some before pictures as it was a real mess. I had bought it in the 80's and only flew it about 20 times before crashing the plane it was in. A Lanier Laser 200 ARF which was a real rocket with the Webra and an 11x7.5 prop. Anyways I just pulled the engine out and threw it in a box. Never flushed it out or anything. Many years later I noticed it was seizing up so I sprayed some WD-40 into it and got it to turn over again. I did that maybe three times in the last 20 years. The outside of the engine was brown with dry castor oil and the inside was a mix of brown, black and green crud. I found the best cleaner was some BBQ grill cleaner. Works like a charm. The inside of the engine just gleams in the light and looks like the day it was built. The liner is like new and still shows the cross hatch. The piston is perfect and you can tell it wasn't even fully broken in yet. The crankshaft cleaned up nice, but was slightly stained. I found a very light rub with some 1500 grit cloth cleaned it up perfect. The carb was a real bugger and took days of soaking before I could even get the barrel to move. Once it would (today) I pulled it apart and cleaned it up. I will pick up two new O rings for it tomorrow. One for the throat and the other goes in the barrel. I am still going to order a Perry carb for it in the morning just in case. I think the stock carb is going to be OK though. The muffler was the worst to clean, never did get a shot of it, oh well. Just waiting for the new bearings to arrive and I can put them in and it is done. I am trying to decide if I am going to bother with making new crankcase gaskets for it or just use some gasket maker. The original ones were toast and you cannot buy them anywhere.

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

If I was Trevor that would be a definite yes to the Hysol.

As for the bearings I never mentioned they did clean up not bad, but I can tell there is some surface roughness that will lead to them failing over time. I just cleaned them up for the fun of it.

I didn't, it was too much to proof read. Is there any mistakes I need to correct?

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

Jack I ordered a GP 40 Big Stik to put it on. It will be over powered as hell, but that is what makes flying Stiks fun. If you don't over power it why buy one? The complete engine with muffler only weighs in at 20.3 oz so it is much lighter than it looks. Less than 2 oz more than my 55AX and about 6 oz less than my 75AX.
