Can someone give me a ballpark estimate as to how much covering I would need to cover .60 size warbird ... say like a P-51?

Colin.

Hi Colin ; I agree with Ground Crew; two rolls .

Do yourself a favour and do not buy monokote. It is not like the old monokote was. If you check rc universe other guys say the same since 2006 ! It doesn't shrink or stick as well now.

Ultracote is better for compound curves and shrinks more than monokote and you need less heat.

I think you are right about not many using covering these days. In my club of scale builders they mostly paint their models with exterior latex paint.

Good luck.

Re: Covering for .60 size warbird?

Go for .5 oz cloth and epoxy resin! Much better finish for a warbird but a lot more work! If done properly you won't add a lot of weight! I just finished a Top Flite Spitfire, works good!

I can't say I could cover a 60 size warbird with 2 rolls though! I may be able to do it with 3

You'll only need 1 roll.....

If you buy it from HobbyKing Each roll is 5mtr long and only cost 12.99

Couple of guys tried it at our club. They say it goes on like Ultracoat.

Never used their covering but anything else I have bought have been happy with it. You might want to try and find a home for a few rolls of covering as one or two shipping might be pricey .Whereas for example 10 rolls might cost the same price to ship. They have a live Cart so you can add and subtract items to get the best shipping cost

I would say 2 rolls for main covering always allow for a mistake it does happen.Of course if you are making. your own design you will need extra

I'm glassing my Warhawk......

But I've never covered a whole bird with shrink wrap. Of the stuff I've made patches from, I like Ultracoat the best.
