Jet Cat Lipo Battery

I have a Jet Cat P80SE with Kero plug. I fully charged the included 7.4 volt 2500mah battery supplied with the turbine. I did 2 flights and on the 3rd flight, I had a failed start. Appears there was not enough battery to do full start. I got home, charged the battery and it took just over 1100mah.

Can anyone comment if they have the same set up, if this is normal. How many starts are you getting? If this is the case then 2 flights and charge the lipo or I will get a spare and change out after 2 flights.

Re: Jet Cat Lipo Battery

If you can fit it in go with a 3800 or 4300 lithium maganese or A123 or Li Fe( if your ECU is compliant). Then you can probably go for 4 to 5 flights before charging.

Good luck
Alan

Re: Jet Cat Lipo Battery

Thanks Alan, that is the issue though with size of battery I can place in the location. I would love to put in larger capacity battery.
Appreciate feedback.

Re: Jet Cat Lipo Battery

HI, just use a second battery, for start up only on a Y connector, and remove before flight.
Why carry all that extra wgt. for nothing.

Also plug it in before shut down for the cooling cycle.

I usually can get 3 on the supplied battery. The kerostart is pretty hard on the battery.

Re: Jet Cat Lipo Battery

The supplied Lipoly needs to be exercised a few times ( charged and discharged 3 -4 times ) to reach full capacity. The kerostart has a high amperage draw that a new battery may not initially sustain. You can expect three starts and normal ( 6 - 8 minute ) flights with the supplied battery. Most JetCat kero / lipoly combinations that guys use employ a minumum 3800 mah Lipoly. That is what I use and comfortably can start and fly 5 flights before considering a charge ( P120SE, P70s, P160SX ).

Cheers
D.W.
