naaa. we don't do flames here..... 'specially on airplane questions...

As you probably noticed, there is pretty much nothing but "D" 's out there, and for good reason - it was a magificient airplane.....and still is with some 200 still flying after nearly 60 years.. (my father in law flew them in the RCAF,,)

Still, the other variants are overshadowed by the popularity of the D, and that is reflected in the Kit offerings... As far as I know, the closest was the B offered by Top Flite and one from G&P sales which might be the basis for some modifications.

As for plans, I'd have to turn the mike over to someone else.........

I am doing a conversion right now of a House of Balsa P-51 to a P -51B. I know it's small (43") but it's not hard to convert from a "D" no matter what size the model is. The stock canopy can be used simply by cutting off the "bubble " section rear of the frame, (not exact scale, but close enough) cutting down the fin strake and raising the turtledeck.The rear section of the canopy can then be made from a rectangular piece of butyrate. I have built and flown the "old" TF and Dynaflite kits , both "B" versions. This one will be an electric version. The newer TF kit looks good, but expensive.
Then again what kits aren't these days?

TopFlite did have the B version and I did convert it to the A version with a little effort. All that is really needed is the side view of the nose and enlarge it to the size of the kit. I made the nose out of a solid block of balsa and simply carved it to shape. The ducting on top of the cowl was also just a piece of balsa, sanded to shape and drilled out after being glued to the top.
If you can find one of these kits still out there grab it, the plane went together quite well, and the parts fitted nicely.

Top flight kits have always been excellent quality and great fliers.

The Gold edition kit goes together great and has a lot of nice features.
