Saito 100

I have an Saito FA 72 sweet engine started and ran good but rich right out of the box. Purchased a Saito 100 (15X4W prop) for my UCD 60 had a number of problems the tappet gap on one side was at least 0.4 mm (the proper gap should be between 0.03 and 0.10 mm. Saito provides an 0.1 mm gauge with the motor. I adjusted both to 0.1 mm. Now it started and ran but was very rich HI & Low. Jim McIntyre leaned both out and engine runs great. I have the engine mounted inverted and I find that I have no trouble flooding it (lack of experience). Now I flip the plane over to start it for the first flight after that it will start inverted on the first flip.

Thanks Jim

I'll go to the horizon website or somewhere and check how to set and where the timing should be set at. Thanks for the info.

can773..

I'll check the ring/piston/liner and see how it is. I can't see it being that becuase the motor turns over with a boatload of compression and the compression, if held at TDC does not leak off. However i'll check it out. Thanks for the info.

My experience has been that how well the engine holds compression doesnt always indicate a ring problem, I have engines that had tons of compression yet needed a ring, and others that have little compression but run great.
