alternate motor mount
Hi all
I kinda dorked my ultra spad stik the other day. skis caught a tuffed of grass and the nose rammed into the ground, breaking my motor mount. and guess what. they're on back order at the lhs. so it forced me to build one of these . ...they work great with the GMS .47 two aluminum brackets and 2 L shaped pieces of cutting board bolted together with #6-32 bolts . double nutted and locktighted

Good thinking! Its often been said that necessity is the mother of invention and I think modelers are pretty inventive people. Its amazing what ya can come up with if your flying is in jeopardy!
I just purchased 2 GMS 47's and haven't had the opportunity to use one yet. How do you like this engine? Actually a very nice looking piece of machinery!

I love them Gary. they are powerhouses. I have one on my kavaleir on floats it wieghs 8.5 lbs and the GMS pulls it off the water with an 11x5 prop
and the one on my ultra spad stik will hover it with a 12.25x3.75 at about 1/3 throttle

Spadhawk, you should do a sketch and a short explanation and send it in to Model Airplane News.

Is that 1/8" aluminum you used for the brackets? Did you bend the brackets from sheet? Your setup looks like just the ticket for most SPADs!

Heres the sketch drawn by Trev. A.K.A. The Tron from Melbourne Australia. Talk about your international design.
I used some channel I had laying around that already had the 90 bent. its about 3/32 aluminum. I'm sure you could bend it from sheet with no problems

Ron, besides I think the MAAC mag should have a Spad report each issue. that would be cool.

So then you should start the actions necessary to create a Spad Comittee.
Heck, you could be the first chairman! Talk to your zone director, he can tell you how to proceed. Ronm
