la series..p.o.s or ok engines

i`m new to the flying game and i`m wondering about the o.s la series.
i have heard to stay away from them ..but thats only one persons opinion.
i know the fx series is alot better ..but now they stopped the .46fx and replaced some of the parts with plastic.
so basbasicallyat i`m asking is that is the la series any worse then the new replacement to the .46 fx.
and if so what makes the la series door stops.
oh..any input into a cheap but easily tuned and long lasting motor will be great for all the noobs in this sport...thanks

Inexpensive Reliable 2 Stroke

I have a ASP (New Super Series 3) 40 Size 2 Stroke (also available in 46 & 52 etc) that will just not quit. Needs very little attention and always starts right up.
Lots of power. I would not hesitate to buy another if needed in the size range.

My other engines are 4 strokes, but this guy sees more airtime than all the others put together.

The LA is a bushing engine vs the FX or the new AX which has bearings so the LA would have less power.

That being said, I have .15 LA's in a few planes with no concerns. Sure they don't have as much power as the bearing versions but from what I've seen with mine and with some students .40-.46 size, I haven't seen too many issues with them; still reliable.

I keep hearing how people think the new AX is no good but I haven't heard from anyone who bought one and tried it. Anyone out there given it a go as yet?

The L.A. series of engines is a low cost, moderate power, entry level, easy to operates eries of engines. It is that simple. The L.A. engine makes no other claim.

If you want more power then pay more money and take your pick from the vast selection out there.

have a look at the gms .47 for around $110 cdn. it's the best darn engine i ever owned.

and the .40 is a little less..

i have a .40la and it flew my 5.5lbs plane nicely, no fancy flying but lazy flights were nice.

Having owned and run a few LA's and dozens of other OS engines, I can say the LA series are fine for what they are (like said allready) a sport line of engines, not high on power but easy to tune and run fine.

In my opinion though, for the same $$ you can buy a better made, stronger running engine.

There are SO many to choose from these days, and very very few bad ones, if any.

I have an LA 46, and it runs just fine. If you want realiable set and forget - go with a brand name like OS. Some of the off-brands, and high strung engines may put out more power, but they are more difficult to keep in tune.

Reliable and "set and forget" though can be many brands....

Enya, Irvine, Webra, Thunder Tigre, Super Tigre, OS etc...

In my experience these are all great engines. Some of the lower priced engines like GMS, ASP, etc I have run and had no problems but then you hear enough others complain to think there may be some issues...

Why not look at what your fellow club members are using, and see how much fiddling they have to do. I allways say the guy flying the engines that need no tweaking every flight (basically set and forget, and fly without problems) is they guy to get advice from...
