Looks awesome Kevin. I purchased one about a month ago and want to re=cover as well. Please tell more about the finishing products you used.

Re: TopFlite giant scale P-40

Very cool.

I've been flying the heck out of my TF P-40 in the scheme it came in. Great flyer. The bugs that I have worked out were my own doing. If it survives a few more campaigns, I can see me recovering in the army, pearl harbour scheme done in England a couple years back.

Re: TopFlite giant scale P-40

Hi ,

The finishing method is as follows . First a good sanding after removing the covering. Next is 4 to 6 coats of oil base dethvane to seal the wood without warping it . Remember to sand between coats .. 220 grit makes quick work of it. Next step is apply the glass. I use 3/4 ounce from thunderbolt R/C . You now switch to water base varathane. After each coat a light sanding is required . It can take up to 6 coats to completely fill the glass. Next step is primer , sand , then panel lines using drafting tape, primer over the lines, remove the tape, rivits and then finish of your choice ....Hope that helps

I entered my P-40 into Model Airplane News "pilots projects" in late October for something to do . Check out the upcoming March issue . It was selected as pilot project of the month .
