Re: Thought of building a RC Aircraft carrier...
Too bad its Micky-Mouse. That little plane was just a toy, really.
Surely someone has already built a larger carrier that can accommodate a reasonable flat foamy that can take-off and land on it?

Re: Thought of building a RC Aircraft carrier...
I think it was Doc Brooks and the crowd from Seattle built a fourty footer and tried to land their pattern ships on it many years ago. Of course there has been many of the navy guys fly off of the real thing.

Really WOW, that would be amazing to see how they did it, a 40' RC aircraft carrier.....Oh Boyieeeee, this i gotta see... @Max, You that airplane he launched was micky-mouse, he could have used some other decent plane...but due to such a small AC Carrier i highly doubt anyone could land on it......but i liked the concept behind it. |

Re: Thought of building a RC Aircraft carrier...
On a modern carrier, the front of the carrier is for launching and the back is for landing.
So... How about a foamy with a thin strip of Velcro wrapped around the circumference of the wheels? The back part of the carrier has the mating Velcro attached to it. The plane can takeoff from the front that has no Velcro. Fly around for a bit. Then when it is time to land, it lands on the rear part with the Velcro . That way, when it touches down on the mating Velcro, it sticks!!!

Re: Thought of building a RC Aircraft carrier...
Someone sent me pics a while ago of a hand built carrier display that was so detailed you expected the taste of gunpowder, oil smoke and avgas to waft out at you.
I think a nice R/C rig would make this perfect driving across a body of water. I'm sure someone could contribute an F6F to try off that deck.
