Ailerons - up or down?

Hi All, I've just done the maiden flight of my new powered glider. It's a Top Model Swish Sport from Icare.
It's very slippery and doesn't want to stop flying. I've tried a couple of alternatives, using the ailerons as flaperons.
With the ailerons down about 30 degrees in landing mode the plane slows nicely but now has extra lift and goes on floating. With the ailerons up about the same amount it speeds up quite a bit and wants a mile of runway to land. In both set ups the ailerons are not very effective making it a little hairy keeping the wings level. I have the flaperons on the left stick and so can vary them on approach.
Any experience out there?
Charles.

Problem solved, ailerons, spoilerons? go up for landing, controlled by the left stick.

I have a glider to set up and it only has spoilers.

Would the crow work the same if you went spoilers up and ailerons down? Would you be able to do the hovering like he does with crow? Would you just end up stalling the ailerons?

Should I do some chamfer of the bottom L/E of the spoilers so they could work as flaps to achieve the crow like his video?

Re: Ailerons - up or down?

As I found out, with the ailerons down they become almost non effective as ailerons and the plane is liable to tip stall - negative wash out. With both ailerons and spoiler up you will lose lift but as the video says, if you dive you will pick up a lot of speed. With the spoiler you can slow the plane right down so long as it isn't diving.

Thanks for that.

I will be working on making the spoilers able to go down as flaps then when I get to working up this bird. Should be easy to do.

Re: Ailerons - up or down?

I doubt very much if you find down spoilers effective. Why change anything that has worked effectively for over seven decades They work well on the wing top to kill lift. They do not produce extra lift and drag as flaps do.
Flaps are Flaps, Spoilers are spoilers and serve a very different function.

Re: Ailerons - up or down?

They are not really spoilers per say. They are hinged trailing edge surfaces that right now are only configured to move up. I want to make them hinge down and become flaps so I can do crow like in the linked video.
