Always a good idea to have a assortment of hardware.
And don't forget the Deep Woods

Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

Here are some shots of my rolling FPV backpack ground station that I use to support my FPV multicopters. It's completely 5.8 gHz for compactness and features:
  • Lots of pockets and storage, including a custom insert
  • Dual True R/C Crosshair antenna (or if I want omni, I swap one for a Bluebeam SPW)
  • Dual Immersion R/C Uno5800 receivers
  • Eagle Tree EagleEyes with PowerPanel (for diversity, A/V distribution and telemetry)
  • FPV Japan DVR
  • FatShark 5.8gHz 100mW transmitter with stock monopole (for video to goggles)

I can drop the pack, take out my transmitter, extend the mast, install the receivers on the mast, direct the antennae, connect the cables and a lipo and I'm ready to go. The whole operation just takes a minute or two.

The pack:

Step 1: Remove the goggles

Step 2: Remove the transmitter (DX7 with RangeLink)

Step 3: Remove the cables and stacked receiver module

Here's a close up showing the 100mW transmitter for the wireless link to the goggles. It has a small DC fan on it for cooling and uses the stock monopole.

Step 4: Mount the receivers, connect the wires and power, extend the mast. The receiver pod uses a Ram Mount Wrap-Mount which has a cool quick release.

I prefer this setup because everything I need is in one bag and I can use it to travel or hike to remote sites. I just grab the bag and my copter and go.

Here's my glow field box.
I built this from plans in RCM magazine.
It carries everything you need to fly a glow plane.

And here's what I use to take it and the plane to the field.

I bring my DC battery charger and a 12v to power it. That plug some basic tools.

That's a pretty impressive setup off equipment there martinic. FPV fascinates me, I like gadgets, what can I say.

Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

What I bring and what I prefer to bring are two completely different lists

What I prefer to bring:
2 x 20 liter jugs of Jet fuel, a ground display unit, a Halon fire extinguisher, set of ear protectors, charged batteries, a TX, a fuel pump and an air pump and of course the JET!

Thanks Frank! I like gadgets too and multicopter FPV is gadgets extreme! It seems like I'm endlessly tinkering, which of course is part of the fun.

Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

Basically what I bring is a bunch of batteries, 3 chargers (just in case), and a tool box containing screw drivers, precision knives, and the most handy tool, FOAM SAFE CA GLUE, and LOTS of it!! (I'm an electric foam flyer, just started in the hobby and I need a carrying case for my DX6 and other tools!!! DX7 on the way) I also bring all spare parts for any plane that I'm flying, I never have to leave the field if something goes wrong...

Oh, and GORILLA GLUE!!!

Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

Fairly new (again to the hobby)... after being gone for 18 years, just built a new gasser heli and am putting together my gear as I go as follows;

-Small tool set including nut drivers, allan keys and screw drivers
-Gas can (no need for a pump, heli has a quick fill cap)
-Small fire extinguisher (hope I never need it)
-Portable charger
-Radio and heli

Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

I keep my DX8 in a nice padded tool kit I've modified. In the top are a number of compartments for small tools. There I have; collets, locktite, prop spacers, JXT's, Servo cables of random lengths, LED's, zap straps, allen keys, jewelry drivers, spare Rx, telemetry bits, random battery connectors, etc. I also bring (but keep in the van) spare 1045s for my multicopters and the bigger wrenches and drivers I would need for a bigger repair.
