Electric Bible.
When I got into the hobby 24 years ago you could buy several books that gave you all there was to know about it. Engines, building, flying, etc.
Plenty of good advice, plenty of tips, plenty of knowledge that you would use sooner or later. There where no ARFs in those days... I was thinking on getting into electric flight.... what is out there? I want to know everything about it before I leap! Motors, batteries, props, controllers... What size or weight of plane gets what size of motor, prop and battery... What are the differences between all the types of motors available... Chargers... You name it... Please..... Albert

Technology is changing things very quickly in electric modelling so even if there was a "bible", it would go out of date quite quickly.
May I suggest some excellent sources of information. 1. Here. 2. www.emfso.org 3. www.ezonemag.com The FAQs at 3. are partucularly useful for kick-starting the learning process! Rob |

What type of flying do you like to do?
Let us give you our opinion. Everyone one here is delightfully opinionated. Let us know the size of plane you think you'd like. Let us know the flying area you have available. Let us know the budget your thinking would suite you. Then site back and enjoy reading what everone thinks you should buy. Let me get the ball rolling. In my opinion whatever you get, definately go lipoly batteries. A fancy charger may not be your best bet. Becuase things are constantly changing in the electric field. Kinda like the computer stuff. This year it's lipoly. Next year theres a good chance we will all want sulfer based batteries. Sometimes small is better. Lots of us are flying planes that fit in the trunk, assembled. And were getting 30 min, 40 min or more flight time Oily. |

As far as the chargers go I'm using the DIY Scott Henion charger for my LiPos with the cell balancer circuit(s) that Suzanne posted over in RCGroups (Ezone). As far as I'm concerned, it's both cheaper and safer than what's on the market these days.... Brad
