Re: machinist needed

Fun part will be making a fixture to hold that part so you can machine it with right precision.

Good luck with that.

Re: machinist needed

HI Ramjet, as you can see from my pic, the other 2 compressors have no step on the back side of the compressor. The originall broken compressor had a 10 tho shim.

Re: machinist needed

now I get it ,you just want to turn down the raised boss and leave 010" remaining ,for spacing I presume. thought you wanted the whole back plate turned down to make it lighter and spool up quicker a popular hop up .I have a lathe and you are wecome to use it ,I could show you how to do it yourself ,you will have to make a split arbor to hold the part, it will clamp to the inside of the bore, you have to make the whole thing at one time in the chuck to assure it will be perfect .verry easy if the metal is soft enough.Roger

Re: machinist needed

pete what is the diameter of the hole .trying to get a idea how big the whole thing is .this will also play a part in how you machine .if the hole is too small you may have to press it onto a shaft to machine.this is a little more tricky.it also looks like the whole back plates on the other ones have been machined somewhat ,you should check the thickness ,if the new one is thicker it will spool up slower .

Re: machinist needed

Can't you just clamp the od in a three jaw chuck, dial indicate the face of the workpiece in (or use a spacer between the chuck face & the workpiece), & use a carbide tool to cut off the necessary material?
