Foam Park Electric at a club... will I get laughed at ?

I've finally made a small investment into the world of RC flying after a life long interest (time, family, money prevented this earlier).

After lots of internet research and at the recommentation of the LHS (HobbyHobby) I purchased a HobbyZone Supercub. A foam, electric all in RTF.

I have also read lots of threads about MAAC and the benefits of joining a club to learn and network... BUT does my kit RTF qualify ? I have no idea if I am 27MHz or anything else, or channel. Cetainly not a buddy box compatible that seems to be a club novice requirement.

Also, this is a 3 channel foam electric trainer... not glow or nitro hot rod, replica warbird and certainly not beautifully hand crafted throughout the long winter nights. I just wanted something to get me up, train on and to see if I like it. Would my supercub get laughed off the field ?

When making the initial investment I wasn't aware of the insurance and club restrictions to flying, now I'm wondering if it will all be too much hassle.

I'm in the Mississauga West area and are looking at Oakville or Mississauga so any replies from members at those clubs would be of particular interest.

Also any general advice for a newbe would be appreciated. Thanks

Way to go.

At least you have a plane to fly.
I'm willing to bet that they would rather have you at the flying field than flying in a park.

Go and visit the fields you are thinking about flying at.
Ask them about flying there and what is required.

Good luck.

That fact that you are actively looking for a club and instruction instead of going it alone in some park should help pave the way for sure.

My sentiments exactly.

We have had guys join our club and bring out little Sky Fly vtail electrics wanting flight instruction, and they get it. Never heard anyone laugh yet, if the club is worth joining, they will be eager to help you along.

Re: Foam Park Electric at a club... will I get laughed at ?

Both clubs have their own websites
www.mmfc.net/
http://www.omfc.org/

The Oakville club just hosted an electric event (lst Sunday) but keep your eye on the EMFSO website (http://www.emfso.org/) for future indoor and outdoor events.

Glad to see that you're doing this the right way and learning from a club rather than on your own. Have fun!

The only draw back with park fliers is they do not handle the wind so your days will have to very calm. But I am sure NO ONE will laugh. Welcome

RichT

I fly out of the Oakville Milton club. You would be most welcome to come out on Tuesday and Thursday which are our training nights. Of course, you wouldn't be able to begin training until club and MAAC dues are paid but you would get a feel for what you would expect.

The foamy will be fine to train on. However, they are pretty light and will be a real chore to fly in the wind. A buddy box is recommended but not mandatory; a flight instructor would be standing right next to you ready to take over. It will just take an extra second for them to bring the plane under control, that's all.

Hope to see you there,

Marc
