I got myself a Rclanders 70mm edf with 3575KV motor and 70A esc. Like to get suggestions on what airframe would be good with this combo, preferably delta wing planform but I can choose others also.

Re: 70mm edf jet suggestions...

Most people buy and air frame and then look for appropriate propulsion for it. I like your strategy better, by a motor/fan and see what it will fit into! That explains a shelf full of various size glow engines in my garage that are waiting to fly one day, but only one fuel plane to show for. It's sort of that "if you build it, they will come" promise
Cheers

Re: 70mm edf jet suggestions...

My method is like how it's in aviation industry, engines are designed and built first and then aircraft is designed and build around them.....would love to get some suggestions from edf jet guys on a airframe for this power plant..

Re: 70mm edf jet suggestions...

I grabbed the Eflite BAE Hawk at the London Swap Meet and was able also pick up a 12 blade 70mm ducted fan and motor setup, (with a spare fan and housing) at the same table. It looks like it will be lots of fun.

There is a good bit of info on this plane with one member selling ducts for it to eliminate the bottom inlets and the lift variation they cause. With that fan unit and ducts it should be a lot quieter. I've already run it up and it lacks that dental drill sound of the 5-blade fan. More of a Whoosh.

Re: 70mm edf jet suggestions...

Mine was just the fan units and one motor. When I got home I connected the Suppo 100A and it toasted within 10 seconds. This gave me a reason to remove the Align 75A from the 600, (have an ICE 100 to fit in its place) but I seem to have missed the fact the white signal wire was never connected and it would not work. I asked for help from anyone with a unit to have a boo. In the meantime I figured it out.

Unfortunately with my 4S batteries I can only pump 400W to it. Considerable yank even with that. However, the ARC 28-58-1 motor is rated 1kW on 5S That may compare to bolting a Lambo motor into a VW. It's just nice to have a margin. New packs were ordered from HK last Monday. We'll see how long they take to arrive.

Re: 70mm edf jet suggestions...

If you want a cheap, light delta, that's not too big & not too small- I bought a couple of these- http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s..._EDF_KIT_.html

They seem to fly nice, just make sure if you order it to e-mail them and have them double check the package as a lot of people got them with 2 left wings, myself included. It took them a couple of weeks to ship me the "right" one. My first one was just to slap together a cheap plane to learn with so I didn't bother with landing gear. My 2nd one is still in the box and will have a lot more done to it when I get around to building it.

Re: 70mm edf jet suggestions...

If you find a nice Mirage III -lmk, as I'd like one myself. I may try to convert a Fly-Fly 90mm to a single seater, or even a Kfir. Another plane to consider-if you can find one is the old SAPAC Gripen.

Re: 70mm edf jet suggestions...

I will build my Topgun Mirage 2000 90mm in these winter months but finding a 70mm Mirage III/V will be a tough one, i'm sure they are out there but needs to be found. Kfir is another one that I would like to get n do it in IAF scheme.....
