Addicted another one ...... I think??

Yesterday afternoon i decided to get back to building my SPAD Demon for the Prov. Funfly in Saskatoon. Anyways i was working away on it when a couple of Josh's (my son) buddies stopped by to see Josh. He was mowing the grass so they were watching me work on the SPAD while waiting for him and the one boy asked about a million questions about RC in General. I was working in the garage (I have my planes hanging from the ceiling) and so i pulled one down and started explaining the basics to both of them. Anyways Joel was really interested in the planes and i mentioned to him that you can buy kits and build that was as well. He's a bit of a muscle head, his whole family is into muscle cars and he also said that he builds lots of model cars, (so he obviously has patience in building) so i showed him on the computer about several of the different trainers that you can build. He then called back later that night to ask a couple more questions and this morning called again to ask if i could help him a little bit if he bought a kit to build. Of course i said yes so he told me he had ordered a LT-40 kit to build. I also printed off the plans for a SPADET as well for him and he was going to take a crack at building it to. Time will tell if he sticks with it, but it was really cool to see him interested in it!! I also told him if he gets into it and loses interest i would buy the plane from him. On a side note, Josh who has shown ZERO interest in my RC planes other than some comments about what colours i should use when covering really thought the SPAD was cool and helped me work on mine last night. He is a tinkerer, he loves small engines and is always created another type of go-cart or cobbling parts from several Bicycles together to make a creation of some sort. Maybe this is the avenue to get him into it??

Way to go! Don't push things and you'll probably have the foundations of a whole bunch of new enthusiasts.

Sort of like the movie "What's So Bad About Feeling Good" (Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler More), it's the secondary infection that really spreads.

Sorry, showing off a bit of my trivial movie knowledge.

Ya it's pretty neat, and on a more selfish note then i'll have someone right in town to fly with!!! Also talked to another youger (22ish) guy today that just bought a Hobbyzone Super Cub, but smacked it up and was waiting on parts. I had everything he needed to get it temporarily repaired and am going to go out with him next time to help him out. He works the rigs and said during the off shift time its pretty boring so he thought he'd take the cub along. Hopefully i can get these guys flying solo soon.

Hit scored! No offense taken. However, bit of trivia -- who were the two cops that keep trying to help the "pregnant" MTM (who was actually trying to smuggle the toucan out of the lab...)

Geoff, Being selfish in this sort of situation is not inherently bad. In the business world, it's called MENTORING.

I'm also trying to get some new blood in the sport, just got back from the field where I invited a new member to try the sticks of the ol' Kadet Sr.
He has already bought a LT40 ARF and an engine, and is just waiting for a new transmiter.

I think he had fun, and after a few laps around the sky he seemed to be getting the hang of it!

Bill, that's just how you do it -- give them a try (MAAC does allow for a first trial flight to be covered under the Safety Code and all the other fun stuff). He's got most of the basics and with a little digging around, he's sure to be flying by early June and probably have his wings by Labour Day.

One of them was Morty Gunty (I'll let someone else figure out the other). I've found a clip of Morty on Ed Sullivan delivering one of his monologues.

You may find it somewhat dated but you have to wait till the end of the clip for the grand finale.

You won't be disappointed. Don't cheat and scroll down that page. Just watch the video.

Jim will be getting his MAAC card as soon as his radio gear arrives...and I think he had fun, he called again this evening with some questions about building his LT40....I think the bug has bitten. The first thing I did when we got to our field was to do a walk around of the site and explain the safety rules. After we got airborne I realized that I should have gone over some aircraft basics....thrust v drag, lift v gravity and such.... but tomorow's annother day....

All I have to do now is get him some stick time and stand back.

Bill
