Lipo charger selection Help!

I need to purchase a charger that will charge and discharge at least upto or even larger 6S 5000mAH lipo packs.

I have ordered two Turnigy 5000mAH 6S 20C Lipo packs but do not have a charger capable of charging/discharging these larger Lipo packs. More of this size pack will be needed for future use. I may even purchase 2 of the same chargers for convienience purposes.

I would perfer to purchase a charger available at Hobby King for this purpose.

Anyone here have any experience with Hobby King chargers for charging 6S to 8S 5000 or higher lipo packs? I would appreciate your recommendations As I looked over the selection available and haven't a clue which charger(s) to buy!

Of course I would want the charger to also charge/discharge my 2S & 3S packs as well!

Thank you in advance for your help. It will be much appreciated. Gary.

Re: Lipo charger selection Help!

Cassat,
The Accucel 6 is capable of chargeing 6S. But the 5000 mah's Gary needs to charge , it can only do 6S at 2.5 amps. Its only a 50 watt charger.

Gary,
I recommend the GT a6-10 charger. I have 2 of them. They can handle the 6S 5000's no problem. They are only $49.99

Another charger is the IMAX B8
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...rger_1-8_Cells
It can do 8S. Although most people don't have 8S packs. They use 2 x 4S packs.

Unfortunately, almost all the chargers except the really expensive ones are currently out of stock.

Re: Lipo charger selection Help!

I have a G.T. Power A8 that works OK.
It's not very accurate on discharging cells but the charging seems OK.
As the A8 suggest it can balance charge up to 8 cells.

My favourite is the Cellpro 10s but it only charges lithium and A123 cells.
I'm looking at the new 8 cell charger that FMA has. Both of these chargers are EXPENSIVE!

Thanks Brad - and others who have offered help and suggestions.

I was looking at the Imax B8 which looked like a decent charger but not being familiar with these chargers wasn't sure if it was suitable. Thanks for the link. ALSO it just happens to be in stock at the moment.

What do you think of the power supply that is recommended with this charger? Would it be enough power to charge my 6S packs with the B8 charger?

I may order one of these right away and when the other comes into stock I may pick up one of those as well. I believe both of the chargers you recommended above will only charge one pack at a time...correct? So just for convienience sake I would like to have two chargers.

I have one of the origional Triton chargers that I have been using with my 2S and 3S packs but I don't think it has enough power to charge 6S packs, does it?

I have been trying hard to get on top of all this new to me larger lipo packs & charging stuff but I still have a way to go. I so much appreciate the help you folks are providing. Man, I should have started learning this stuff a few years back because I feel like such a dweeb when it comes to electric power and the various applications. I guess the bast way to learn is just jump in with both feet and keep trudging along. I am so thankful that knowledgeable folks like you are willing to answer such questions for me.

Thank you to all of you who have taken the time to key in here and offer help!

Re: Lipo charger selection Help!

Brad,

What do you think of this charger?: Turnigy Accucel-8 150W 7A Balancer/Charger.

The reviews give it great praise and it's only $10 more than the Imax B8.

Although most of the reviews said it was a good charger there were a number of complaints logged about the charging/discharging rate accuracies of the B8.

So I just wondering what you personally think of the Accucel-8 7A. Would it do the job for me with my 6S packs. They are also currently "in stock."

I must apologize for all the questions. I simply just cannot afford to purchase a charger and then find that its not the best for my needs. I trust your judgement and would appreciate your input on this charger.

PS: My Funtana 125 has been shipped and is expected to arrive this Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. I need to get everything done and get flying it before IMAC season starts so I need a charger ASAP. Thanks.

Re: Lipo charger selection Help!

Brand new high power charger from hobbycity

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...dProduct=11340

For power supply, you can't beat the Iota Engineering power supplies, the DLS-55 is what I use and have done for 5 years, for the price, if you do a lot of charging is unbeatable for their power output. They are all 100% duty cycle so they can run flat out all the time. You used to be able to get them on ebay for about $130 or so.

You need a minimum of 130W charger to do a 6s 5000 pack at 1C(5A), but most packs today can do at least 2C, so you should really look for a 250+ watt charger to save time.
