Re: 049 to electric

hmmm I own some plans for a some 049 builds, I'm also interested in knowing this. I'd rather go electric than using the couple decades old pile of 049's sitting here lol

Re: 049 to electric

A good 480 size motor should replace an .049 on most planes. I converted a .049 powered Gentle Lady glider with an exceed 480 and it worked great.

Re: 049 to electric

Do you have decent .049 in that pile that still might swing a prop with a new plug, etc. Some thing with a tank attached like a golden bee would be a bonus.
Thks,
Ken

OMG! Why would you want to put such a slimer in a plane?

Re: 049 to electric

Even a 400 is similar. A TD is .105 BHP or 78 watts, a Norvel .049 is about 100 watts, and a Black Widow 60 watts at 15,000 rpm. I still like to use the old .049's, but it is getting hard to compare with the lekkies. They idle so low, and you need a battery in the rc plane anyway.

Re: 049 to electric

Interesting! I would not have guessed an .049 to be that powerful. I have a 2 meter glider here with an electric motor that puts out 80 watts and climbs far steeper than any 2 meter with an .049 power pod that I ever ran!

That could be because I was running mostly Baby Bees though...
