Hi Capt/jhon jhon: I finsihed the second reciever install to run the ramps, a lot of fussing but its works. I'll need a servo slow to get scale speed on the ramps!
Got the elevator hinged and horn installed, acces hatch for 2nd RX, then did a quick mock up of nacelles with one motor mounted to check clearances, all appears to be fine!! Kind of hard to get an airplane with 26" between wheel centre to sit on a 24" table -hehe! I took a couple of pics of the plane sitting on its wheels.
Need more WOOD!! Need to order 20feet 12GA silcone wire for ESC's. I'll be using TZ85 amp units from Hobby King, they are too large to fit in the wing. I'll be installing them in the fuselage.
I have to look to find some 3 pole connectors for ESC/ motor connections, otherwise I'll have mark each wire to get proper plug ins - a potential for disaster in the waiting!! Flytwice

Re: Caribou/ Buffalo

Just been catching up - fantastic job Flytwice!!

A note of caution - I believe that I have read that the wiring between the ESC and motor should not be extended - it affects the capacitance in the system and hence the high speed switching and hence the ability of the system to work.

Re: Caribou/ Buffalo

Hello Cageon Flyer: Hows life in Bobcageon? It is now considered general practise to extend the wires from the ESC to the MOTOR, and keep the BATTERY wires as short as possible. If you have to extend the battery wires beyond 9-12", your must add capacitors for every additional 4" of wire.
This is not required if the esc to motor wires are lengthened.
I have extended the battery wires on another plane to about 12", and the esc's about the same, there appears to be no problems.
This plane will need the ESC's installed in the fuselage, so require about 18-20" to reach the motors.
The best sources all recommend lengthening the esc to motor if possible. I would have run the esc with the motor and battery in the nacelles, but there is no room for a battery. Even the ESC's won't fit inside anywhere.
Thanks for the encouragement , hows the Beav coming along?? flytwice
PS> Sorry no recent pictures, will post some soon!!

Sorry fellas, no pics yet. I got tied up doing little stuff, like getting the landing gear and doors worked out and functioning. All appears to be going Ok, of course it will have to rechecked after sheeting and final install.
I've also built the cowls, due to their unique shape in going from almost square to round over 4", I have to come with a new way to mount them. I originally thought I'd have lots of room for the ESC, and cowl, but find there's not nearly as much room!! Another ouzzle to be solved!!
I've also hooked up the rudder, steering sevo and nose retract and have it functioning, along with skinning in the nose. just covering the nose took 6-7 hrs, another square to round over 6 1/2", very tight twists. I managed by cutting 5/8" x 1/16 strips, and soaking them with window spray.
Right now everything is spackled up, so I'll get up some pics after some sanding. flytwice

Re: Caribou/ Buffalo

Ho fellow flyers: Sorry for the delay in getting pictures up, I spent the last 2-3 days going thru wiring, skinning the nose section and cutting out windows. I started laying out wiring to the esc, flaps, and landing gear. I'm using Turnigy Servo regulators to control the nacelle doors and landing gear as well as the flaps, so there will be 3 on board.
I also now have the ramp doors hooked up and operational on a second radio (I only have 6 channel systems). This would be the perfect place for a 9 -11 channel radio, but thats not going to happen!!
Here's the latest pics of the progress. I now have to wait for wood, and parts, so may be week or so before I post again. flytwice

Re: Caribou/ Buffalo

Beautiful! you work really nice Flytwice!
I found very interesting your landing gear door,If i understand there is no servo; I can see a *transversal(see pic) shaft that the wheel actually push to close the door, is it a spring return or is it gravity that kept them open or servo not installed yet?
(sorry for my English, hope I am understandable)
Thanks!
Jean-marc.
