Re: PLease Help Me To Hook A Smoke Pump To Glow Engine.

Hi Grant
Many moons ago I rigged a smoke system on a Webra Speed 60 with a Pitts type Muffler and with lots of fiddling got some pretty good smoke.
You have to put a nipple into the hottest place on the muffler and I found the collector before the can to be the hottest. I also put two wraps of 1/8 od copper tubing around the cylinder head to preheat the oil before squirting it into the muffler.

Re: PLease Help Me To Hook A Smoke Pump To Glow Engine.

Grant you could use a small brushed speed controller to run the pump. just use a spare channel to control the speed controller . you will only need a 5-10 amp controller . some pumps have there own controller and some don't this would be for one that does not. Roger

PS: I have a small controller if you need one .

Brian is 100% correct about the muffler setup ,glow motors do not get that hot so a pre-heater really helps.

What Smoke pump are You using Grant? Is it wired to your throttle and flow programmable with a throttle/smoke mix?

Re: PLease Help Me To Hook A Smoke Pump To Glow Engine.

i have used the Sullivan fueler pumps as smoke pumps and as Ramjet said, used a Brushed speed control from H-K to run the pump from a separate channel and some mixing.

i have used this set-up on turbines where all u need is a stainless nozzle in the exhaust and the heat takes care of the rest. on glow it's important to inject into a hot place on the muffler and use preheat coils.

Alberta Re: PLease Help Me To Hook A Smoke Pump To Glow Engine.

Grant,

What I did on my Yak 54 with a DLE 55. I am using a sulivan pump. I run a line from the pump to aluminum automotive fuel line tubing that I have wrapped around the muffler can about 6 or 7 times then out to the nipple screwed into the hottest part of the muffler right after the exhaust exits the head. The reason for the wrapping of the metal line is to pre-warm the smoke oil before it enters the muffler. I use way less smoke oil and the amount of smoke from the exhaust is amazing.

Cheers
