Nice thread Trev and good to see Pilot is being so helpful unlike another major manufacturer that seems to be in the news with all their inflight failures lately.
I am on the fence about what freestyle plane I want for IMAC contests and this is starting to sway me. Nice construction and I love the green Castrol scheme.
Brendan and I are doing a similar thread in this forum for his Carden Extra 260 which will be in a totally new scheme once we're done. I love building!

Re: Pilot R/C Extra330 Rebuild

Hey Lee!!! I just caught up on your post of Brendan's plane Congrats to you both on his rebuild!!!

Yep... pretty big fan of the Pilots. I have quite a few flights on Pilot's 100cc Yak55M and it's a monster of a FreeStyle plane Definitely Pilot's best 3D plane so far. The Extra 330 is very smooth for things like IMAC and the Yak55M is right tight behind for smoothness. But the Extra lacks the snappiness of the Yak55M when you want to turn it on for some FreeStyle.

And yes... Pilot's wood program is a huge selling point for me.

Cheers

Trev

Re: Pilot R/C Extra330 Rebuild

Looks good Trevor, and it is definitely hard to go back to Ultracote once you get used to Monokote. What a difference.

LOL!! No kidding!! Monokote has a bit steeper learn curve, but once you get onto it, it's insane the difference. Just finished covering a side of the fuse and I'm starting to get back onto this Ultracote.

But now I wish I had just done a new scheme and used Monokote... oh well, LOL

Re: Pilot R/C Extra330 Rebuild

Having to repaint would have added a ton of work, and its such a great scheme as it is. It will look as good as ever. Or better. I think you made the right call.
Alas, no Monokote fumes though.

Re: Pilot R/C Extra330 Rebuild

Well... I got it all covered tonight

Tomorrow's project will be to fix up the front of the hatch that suffered damage. Luckily nothing cosmetic - just the end plate!!!

Re: Pilot R/C Extra330 Rebuild

WooooooooHooooooooo!! All Done

Tonight I finished a bunch of odds and ends - trickiest part was a rebuild of the canopy, but it turned out well!! Also super happy with the tight fit of the canopy and wings to the fuse Awfully tough to beat that for a program from Pilot!!

Cost --- $35 for wood shipping, $80 for covering, $80.for graphics, $158 for painted CF gear and wheel pants (en route from Tony!)...... $333 total

Re: Pilot R/C Extra330 Rebuild

Tonight I got the firewall prep'd and mounted the ZDZ112

The ZDZ112 is so short... Needed 1” standoffs for the hub to come out the same as the GP123 that was mounted directly to the firewall.

Sure makes the throttle and choke set-up easy

Also happy that the MTW headers were the perfect drop at 90mm ... I just have to extend the 9" headers to 14.5" to work with the ES Pipes.
