Might be getting a Great Planes Phantom kit, not sure if the plans are complete or not. Anyone have a set of plans, just in case? Also, any comments on the kit, building, flying, any thoughts, detailing, etc. Thanks!

Re: Great Planes F-4 Phantom

I never got Gplanes F4 kit, instead bought few Learjet kits from same series. If you ever want to do learjet, i'm the guy to ask about. Still have 2 of these Learjets on me...I'm sure F4 kits have same construction methods as Learjets kit does, only difference is the 2 different type of planes...

Re: Great Planes F-4 Phantom

Sadly, someone used proxy bidding, and won the kit with less than a second to go. Argh. Only thing I couldn't see in the photos was the fuselage plans, so that's what I was looking for. Hopefully another one will come up for sale, or I'll buy a set of plans for a Phantom, and build from scratch.

Re: Great Planes F-4 Phantom

Of course, as soon as I bought a set of plans, a kit became available! Should be a great winter project, along with a NIB Top Flite FW 190 kit that I received last week!

Re: Great Planes F-4 Phantom

What do you plan to haul it around?

I grabbed a nearly complete GP F-15 from another RCC member last fall and spent the winter going through it nose to tail. Made a few changes such as all internal control linkages, but the biggest was to move all the control system aft and the fuel tank close to the CofG.

Not sure if the F-4 suffers the same malady, but the GP F-15 is notoriously nose heavy, (not helped by my stuffing a Fox Eagle IV 60 and larger muffler up front). It is also a high drag airframe.

I collected a lot of foamie external tanks and missiles while working through it and will likely only use the few already sorted out, so if you need anything for detailing give me a PM.

Re: Great Planes F-4 Phantom

I haven't read of any CG issues with the F-4, not sure yet on powerplant though. Tempting though, to see if and EDF setup would work! Think I'll stick with the prop nose though. I can't wait to open up the kit when it arrives though.

Re: Great Planes F-4 Phantom

Well, I've started the build, and so far, so good! Really like the way she's going together. If anyone's built one of these, and has any tips, hints, improvement ideas, let me know!
