Motor temp

I know monitoring the temp of a nitro engine is for tuning purposes, But with an electric should i be monitoring the temp of my motor. This is my first year racing and i was just wonder because i know too hot can be a bad thing but what is too hot ?

As you said, heat can damage your electirc motors. Magnet gets weaker, electricity doesn't flow as easily, burn the brushes and so on. Usually, yes, you should monitor your motor temperature but with the proper gearing, it should not be a concern. Don't know if your running on or off-road, stock (27t), 19t or other but for both sotck and 19t, you should be able to keep your finger at least 3 second before it's too hot to touch. If you have a temp gun, anything above 180-200 is too hot for electric.

im off road racing a 17 double on a rustler with a 19t pinion and the stock spur i think it 86 tooth after about 5 mins i can touch the can for like 10 seconds but the end bell on the other hand is hot and if i get a temp gun were is the critical temp the end bell or the can?
