Hey Struts: wing bags are easy unless you have 2 engines in the way and that makes it complicated. Where do your wing separate? Many textile shops have quilted material and its just a simple matter of sewing an envelope the size of the wing.

Re: Custom Wing bags, how to make them?

Yeah sure sounds simple but not having a sewing machine nor did anything like this in a decade, I rather have some one who knows whats needed to be done make these for me. Center wing section is 62" with 4 nacelles!, then 23"-24" are the both outer wing panels.

I have to measure the chord length with cowls and spinners installed to make sure right diementions are given.

Re: Custom Wing bags, how to make them?

A lot of wing bags are made off foil backed bubble wrap blanket used for insulating stuff.
You can get it at Home Depot, in rolls, couple of widths and lengths. Just duct tape the seams.
Just lay the wing on, trace with a marker, be generous. Cut two plys at same time.
Tape edges of the two plys together with duct tape. Flip inside out. Tape edge again.
Tape on a couple duct tape handles.
$30 bucks whole get you enough material for a couple big planes.

Re: Tom's post ....

Just stitch together a rectangular bag that fits the largest L/E to T/E length and Bob's your uncle .... not the prettiest thing you may see ..... but does offer some protection and makes transit easier ..... not exactly a cheap fabric .... visit your local FabricLand every once in a while ...

Re: Custom Wing bags, how to make them?

Sammy, I use the foil covered bubble wrap and some of my bags are 5 years old, and still work just fine. As said before, you don't need a sewing machine, and nearly everyone is qualified to use duct tape or in my case, clear packing tape. If you want to get fancy, use the silver foil tape that heating duct people use.

Thanks for this timely thread. I was trying to figure out what to do for wing bags for my new H9 Carden Yak. Today I bought a roll of "Reflectix" - aluminum foil covered bubble insulation - at Lowes ($30 for 24" x 25') & taped it together with high strength clear duct tape & made flap closures with Dollarama Velcro. Bingo, in half an hour I had a pair of highly functional wing bags.

Re: Custom Wing bags, how to make them?

My wife likes to sew, she made a me a wing bag out of some quilted type material she had laying around. Made it to fit the wing of my 4 star 120 that has been a work in progress for a number of years.
