Re: FPV racers in London area?
That sounds cool. Right now I need more space than a parking lot though .... if I actually 'go'. Need practice... can fly line of sight no problem, but still working on the FPV end. Don't want to be in the limelight of any drone prix races or anything, but just don't want to be embarassed to enter a race or fly at an event. Like last summer at Flite Fest 2015 - had 4 days to fly FPV and chickened out because of the other hot shots that were there. . This year I am committing to giving it a go at least once!

Re: FPV racers in London area?
i hear ya on them needing space, i flew LOS last summer and a little FPV, but this year i committed to FPV, i still have a hard time staying on track but it is getting easier, i also committed to acro and that is going well . just start with lots of altitude and work your way down.
i will say tho that the get togethers are very easy going and most of the guys have only been flying for a year or less so they remember being new. also they have a lot of information and can help with almost any problem. |

Re: FPV racers in London area?
Sounds cool. I'm okay on most of the technical stuff. And I'm actually jumping into acro as I find it easier to fly without having to 'fight' the auto leveling. I just have the auto level on an oh-crap switch within easy reach .
For me it is a retraining of the flying mind having flown mostly fixed wing for the last 6 or 7 years. The physics of a quad are so different. And... I haven't gotten past the "What if I crash?" syndrome yet. With fixed wing I did everything I could not to crash, but with quads it seems that that mentality really limits one's progression. I think I just need to give'er and see what happens. We'll see.

Re: FPV racers in London area?
crashing is flying lol. i am always surprised how well the frame hold up to the crashes. but i try to stay over grass. i hit the power wire and the cloths line tonight,
i have been wanting to fly some fixed wing. i got into rc last summer because of quads. i build paper foam wing, the arrow from flite test. but i threw it up 4 times and now its need replacing. i have been keeping an eye open for a cheap easy to fly plane to train on. |

Re: FPV racers in London area?
Yeah, a wing isn't always the best one to learn on. Though $ foam is cheap.
If you can find some coroplast (ie. corogated plastic - eg. election signs) you can make just about any of the FT designs out of that. Way more durable. A tad heavier maybe, but with the right power up front / behind should work fine. Our club (Cobble Hills) uses coro for combat planes, WWI and II and more recently electric FT Barons. Loads of fun. That said, if you don't have anyone to help you learn I'd suggest starting with FT's trainer or explorer plans. And remember / learn to throttle off _before_ you hit something. If you're ever in/ near London ping me ... would be happy to help you out. J

Re: FPV racers in London area?
Hey Everyone, I recently just got into the FPV hobby here in London and have also been looking for people to get together with and fly.
I created a page on FB so that we can start setting up events and keeping communication with members. Why don't you guys join up by liking the page and maybe we can organize some days to fly? I'm on the Kipps/Adelaide area but have a car so its easy to get around. https://www.facebook.com/forestCityFpv/?fref=ts |

Re: FPV racers in London area?
Hey Pete.
Outside flying is ad-hoc ... good place to start is at the facebook link that LooseTransistor shared above. Indoor flying in London - we now have two venues & nights. Friday nights are the 'regular' nights with fixed wing and _some_ quad flying/tuning, but Monday nights are now our quad flight nights. Check out the website for more details on Monday nights (time/location/etc.). (MAAC membership is required for the indoor stuff for liability) http://lirc.ca/location-and-dates/ Cheers, J
