Wonder where I can get a volume discount on cans/pipes? Need to quiet down a DLE30, DLE 55, DA50 and a EME120. There are other options....

Mousse can mufflers, we used to use the large ones to act as mufflers, they work pretty well to quiet down and round off the raspiness.

Take 2 of these:

Empty them, add a perforated aluminum tube in the back, through a hole in the side, use JB Weld as the fastening medium, and attach to engine using headers & JB weld.

Ugh!! I cringe at the sound of stock muffs. Quiet engine and loud props are where it's at!!

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

Ed and Brodie... here's the headerlength testing for the DLE111V4. If I remember correctly, DLE didn't change port timing on at least the last 3 versions (V2,3,4) so this data should apply to the ones you both have.

Looks like we only tested the RE2's - In the air it was a really awesome combo (awesome mid-range) with 12.5" headers and a Falcon 28x9.5

What pipes did you guys plan to run??

heading to Cayuga shortly, stop by today and you can fly my Sbach or better yet bring that Pilot we worked on last weekend and enter the IMAC with it. I can learn ya something today for the routine.

Forgot about that other engine, which makes 7 units. The exhausts are worth more than the old planes. Not to mention there still no way to make 'em not look like those old racing chainsaws with the huge tuned pipes.

BTW the new RC 2 stroke engines are still chainsaw engines with lipstick! You've heard the one, "what do ya got when ya put lipstick on a pig: you still got a pig"! Externally mounted exhaust would be just like the pig.

The Mousse cans would probably not be a good idea for where I live, if one came apart in flight, the fire hazard (lots of chem fallow stubble) just isn't worth it.

Guess I'm stuck with the last option I mentioned. Switzerland hasn't had a import RC plane ever fly there!
