Arrows Marlin - My Thoughts...
I got a chance to maiden the Arrows Marlin today.
Here's my thoughts..... Pro's & Cons...... - $250.00 cdn shipped to Sumas, Wa. ( 179.99 USD was my cost. Has gone up $20.00 in the last week to $199.99 ) - No shipping costs if sent to a US address. ( I live in Canada but am just minutes from the US border ) - Ordered Sunday. Picked up at mail drop on Friday. - Quality control is better than a lot I've seen. I would rate it 9/10. - Everything lined up which made for easy and quick set-up with the exception of the slot in the fuse to run the servo wires up from the wing. I found it smaller than I like so I enlarged it. Made it easier to get the wires where I they needed to go. - Control surfaces required adjustment at the clevis end once the radio was set up. A few turns here and there did the trick. - Flies well on a 2200 4s but flight times are shorter than I'd like. Around 4 mins. but that left my battery around 3.56v per cell. I like to end up around 3.7v. Would be better with a 2800 - 3300 mah time wise I think. - I was satisfied with the power and speed of it all things considered. - 2 clicks of down elevator and two on right aileron. That's it fresh out of the box after my control surfaces adjustments. - Recommended CG is 80-90mm from leading edge. I started at 85mm and that made it nose heavy. On my 3rd. flight I had moved that battery back a bit over 1/2" and that made for a decent inverted flight with minimal elevator input. - Likes flaps on take-off. Without them it ate up a lot of runway before it lifted off. - Likes even more flaps on landing. - Very predictable and goes where you tell it to. - Short assembly time - Copied the Eflite 70mm Viper profile which made for quick set-up on my NX6. Only change I made was eliminating the retract switch. - Cheap nylon geared steering servo that I swapped out with a metal geared one prior to flying. Better sooner than later. - Handles great in a crosswind which is good at our field. - Landing gear is good but I swapped that out with spring loaded stuff from Castle RC. Most pilots like to hand launch. My shoulders are shot so I prefer gear. - Wish it had retracts. - Wish it was available in Canada. - Would I buy it again? YES....... Here's one of my flight videos. Best viewed on a larger screen vs phone. |
