Jim,

People WANT a flat discharge curve so that the plane doesn't behave differently as the voltage drops off. Unfortunately, most high impedance pack drop voltage under load spikes which happen often in our planes. That's why LiIon w/ regs became so popular initially... no voltage drop under load since the voltage was being stepped down by the reg already.

All,
Keep in mind, if a cell says 20 mOhms and you are using a 5-cell pack you have a 100mOhm pack.

Check out the 1950 FAUP on the NoBS site (http://www.hangtimes.com/giantrxpacks.html)

Only 4 mOhms, very small and light, and can handle 40 Amps!!! Plus, an ENTIRE 5-cell pack is only 20mOhms!!! Voltage stays up VERY well!!! I can fly 6 flights with it on the ignition of my DA-100 (over an hour of air time) and I use less than 1/2 the pack. My voltage stays up over 5.0V (4-cell pack) under a 1 Amp load the entire time.

Cheers

Finally let mine see some sunlight. Here are a couple of pics of her in the drive way.

She's almost ready to fly. I still have to install and plumb the fuel tanks, and then tie down all the radio gear in places that give me a favourable CG.

Looks great Tom,

One tip, and don't take this the wrong way, but do yourself and that plane a huge favor and buy a nice Menz, MSC, NX, Mejzlik or equivalent prop. That Zinger is not the right prop for that plane. They are far to flexy and will give about half the performance of a good wood or CF model.

Looks great, let us know how the first flights go!!

Thanks Chris,

I do plan on doing that. The Zinger was what GH had when I put in the order, and I wanted something to get me into the air. A buddy from work is going down to the Toledo show in April , and I plan on giving him a shopping list of things to pick up for me. Right at the top of the list is going to be a selection of propellers. I still have to do some more research on exactly what to ask him for.

So suggestions would be appreciated. Propellers for a DA-50 to be run at roughly 400ASL. I enjoy tossing the plane through 3D maneuvers, but I also plan to visit some of the IMAC competitions in the area to try my hand at Basic.

Brands and numbers would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

I've ran Menz, MSC, NX and Mejzlik props on mine and so far this is what I like:

1) Mejzlik 22 X 8 CF ( 23 X 8 would be better though)
2) Menz 22 X 8
3) NX Pro 22 X 8
4) MSC 22 X 8

Alot of guys run 23 or 24" props but for me they were too slow to spool up. The mejzlik 23 X 8 would be the best, and the menz 23 would probaly be good too but I had a hard time finding one so I went with the 22. I found the MSC props just too bulky for me. There is also the Vess props which are supposed to be awesome, however; I have yet to try one.

Thanks dude!

That's exactly the kind of information I was looking for.

I'll definitely get pics of the maiden. Don't expect anything like the pics that started this thread until I get some confidence in the motor

Hey Tom lookin good!

I started with the same prop, then switched to the Pro Zinger 22x8 which performed even worse. I now fly with a Mejzlik 22x8 and couldn't be happier. I will never go back to Zinger props for high performance aircraft unless I have no choice.
