Building Bug

Greetings

I ve got the building bug . I caught it in the beginning of September .
It starts with ichy figers , and slowly moves to the brain . I have these ideas that I should build a 1/7 scale TF Mustang . Not an ARF , the kit , I do some reading and fall into a thread that is a build just for this kit . The thread is 70 pages , not a small thread by any means . over three days I take the time to read the threat . The sickness is getting worse . so I read the entire thread again . I ended up buying the kit . I inform myself on what engine to put in this bird , and decided it would be a Saito 125 . My gas expences for this year were a little over $ 500 ( I flew a lot ) . My wife said that this was a lot of money for such a little planes . to get her point through she asked me if there was a way , to bring down the cost of the fuel , and of course I said that I could go into gas . The eqevalant of gas would be about $60 or $70 . Well I m starting to feel a little better now , I have my 1/7 Mustang kit in , I m ready to start building , right Wrong .....over time as I m reading this never ending thread , I m getting hooked on this plane and I learn that it s scale capabilaty is limited . Especialy for the landing gear , which is very dificult to put in 4 inch scale wheels and operating doors . Just for curiousity I start looking at the 1/5 TF scale build in RCU . This is a 26 page build thread , not so bad right . Wrong ........ I fell in love with this build and I could do much more scaleing on this build . The cost would be about $1200 more to build . I seen this photo with a DA-50 with a Keleo exhaust system , now I m feeling even better , I think

GUESS WHAT I M BUILDING THIS WINTER ?

Topflite kit , Giant Mustang P-51 : in the work room

Engine Statis : will have DA-50r in two weeks

Keleo Muffler Statis : ordered and payed for .

Can anyone help me with this sickness I have

Any help would be appriciated .And many thanks

Cheers

Mike

Things that you buy may seem expensive but to some of the people that have been in this hobby for years,I am sure will agree. This hobby has got cheaper over the years and items in most part have got better. A basic radio FM 10 years ago was over $300.Check out what $300. will buy now. How much for a round of golf $50 does that sound right. So let the bug bite don't let it take control of your wallet and have fun

If it's a sickness, let the cure not be found... welcome mate.

Far be it from me to advise anyone but ... if you're this far gone, why not go for an accurate scale build?

It's doesn't have to be more expensive (if you're creative) and your journey will be that much more rewarding than if you were to make something only scaleish....

Get into scratch building from your own plans. Costs go down somewhat; illness gets much worse, satisfaction soars.

really this hobby is cheap compared to others take quadding or boating or motorcycles or cars or just about any other (manly ) hobbies your looking at 10,000$ or more where you could have several nice airplanes for that price
