Question maac question

I was just trying to register but was curious and it was unclear to me if I pay the fee now, will it only cover me until January 1st of 2012 instead of 1 full year from date of purchase?

Re: maac question

Hi belcom:

The responders here are correct; the MAAC membership expires on the 31st December of the year in which it was issued. Interestingly however, the 1/2 price membership, applicable only after 01 September of each year, is available only to new MAAC members or former MAAC members who have been away from the hobby (have not had a MAAC membership) for more than ten years. So, for example, if you've been away from the hobby and you have not had a MAAC membership for three years, you're not entitled to the 1/2 price membership after 01 September. Strange.

Re: maac question

I have an excellent field near my house which I found a couple months ago and most of the time there is not a single soul around. I wanted to have MAAC so I can participate in fun flies and join a club so I could talk to people gain experience and get some help when needed but it seems if it's only for half a year (at least at this moment in time) it would be a waste of money. Maybe next year then.

Re: maac question

It's actually worse than that.

When I went to renew, I checked the MAAC website for the current rate. That's what I sent in. They told me I was short. I explained that I sent what was quoted on the website. I was then told, yes, that's what it says and it's wrong. Cough up or get lost.

My recommendation was that if they are aware what they claim is an error, it might be a good idea to correct it, since they have no plans of sticking to their quotes. I was told, yes, perhaps next year.

Draw your own conclusions about MAAC and its operations.
