Jason,

I think it would be a good idea that the seller be able to delete unwanted posts in the classifieds area. This way his thread isnt hijacked with silly comments. This would also be beneficial in other threads

What do u guys think?
we all know the particular threads i am referring to.

Cheers
Pulkit

I don't mean to nitpick, but there is a 'Comments and Suggestions' forum.

I'm not sure if I quite understand what is meant by this, but sorry if I've annoyed you.

Best regards.

I definately see your point. I, myself, am guilty of posting to the "off-topic" end of the spectrum at times, and I can see how this would annoy the author of the post.

As an aside, sorry to anyone I've done this to

Edit: And on the topic of the thread, I would say that it wouldn't be a bad idea, but I think it could be a situation which is difficult for Jason to implement. There are many forums which use this format and I havn't seen any which allow the author to delete/edit the thread.

I'm not familliar with the mechanics of these forums though. Perhaps one of our more computer-literate RCC'ers could provide some insight?

I have done it too, at least I don't post the sale killing 'your g2 is only worth...' messages.

Moderating your own ad posts

Now that is a fantastic idea that is long overdue. Rcgroups moved to this method a while ago. There, you can delete unwanted posts in your own ad. I'm all for it. While I truly enjoy this site, some users have sort of lost the idea of respectful boundaries in other's posts, leading to an unrelated free for all in someone elses ad. I certainly won't speak for others with items for sale, but I would appreciate such a system.

The forum software used here can indeed be setup to allow the original poster to delete their own topics.

Used in appropriate forums it works well, but it can be abused by people who simply want to stifle conversation about something that would otherwise be considered legitimate information....

For example, someone responds to an advertisement for an old TX saying "For everyones information that's a wide-band radio and can no longer be used at any MAAC field", only to have the original poster quickly delete the post and re-post it to delete the valid comment.

In the end someone could get stuck with a radio that they can't use....or any other multitide of possible situations as a result of stifled conversation.

Yes, threadjacks or threadcraps need to be controlled, though.

I run a forum myself and the answer to situations like this are moderators - trustworthy members who can be assigned to tend to forums and keep discussions in line, lock topics when necessary (or in the case of Buy/Sell, upon request) and then delete old topics when stale or sold.

I have a moderator on my own forum who looks after all of my marketplace-style areas and it works well.
