Re: Gaui Motor Runs Hot

What kind of headspeed are you hitting? What motor is it? What temperature is it getting to? What size ESC? What size pinion?

Is this the EP model?

Re: Gaui Motor Runs Hot

Tried lubing bearings, is the tail belt too tight?

Ok this is a Gaui 550ep it has a turnigy motor turninh 850 KV at 1300 W I beleive the pinion is a 13 or 14 tooth gear. Gaui's head speed calculator says it should be in around 1900rpm give or take a few rpm.the speed control is a HK 85a . I think temp was almost 200 degrees almost hot enough to burn my finger tips. I will checkit closer next time I fly it. This mtor is maybe 5 flights new. The original motor did same thing that is why I changed it. I have another exact same Heli but only running 425 blades and totally a different gear reduction set up and diff. mptor it runs very cool compared to this .Will check out motor size on it.
It will probably need oiling now as the heat will affect whatever lube was available.

Re: Gaui Motor Runs Hot

If the stock motor was doing the same thing then it either your gearing, the belt or the added blade length. Like Bensidus said. Make sure the belt is not too tight. Also make sure the motor pinion isn't to tight to the front main gear.

I have never setup this type of Heli but the gearing could be a issue. You have 3 options for the front gear. So maybe dropping to a smaller pinion size and a smaller front gear. Dropping the pinion size the to the 13T and the front gear to a bigger one will give you what headspeed?

I changed my statement I had it backwards I think.

Re: Gaui Motor Runs Hot

I found with the gaui I had the gear train was quite tight it took some filing to get proper gear lash.

Motor on Gaui mounts to a motor plate which you install into fuse It has an alignment bearing which makes this plate dedicated to specific location. My pinion gear meshes with front gear with no force just slides rigt in. I did some reading by googling Gaui ger reduction or ratio. It appears that Gauis run hot. First two I have did but motor on third one doesn't . Answer in my mind is power . Original 550 eps run 850kv motors at about 1000w. My new motor is 850kv at 1300w My cool motor is 1300kv at 1500w So I think I need to find a 850/950 kv motor putting out atleast 1500w. Well one that won't break the bank .
