Don't be too hasty, there is an electric only club near you.... Temac.

http://emfso.org/temac/

And many electric friendly clubs, at Ajax for instance, we welcome all aircraft regardless of motive power or configuration.

It would be a lot easier to annex part of the Antartic and start a brand new communist country :P

Personally, I like electrics, but I like gas too. At our field now, we have a 1 plane in the air rule and that includes electric. In fact, you are not supposed to run your engine in the pits when someone else is flying. It's great for concentration!

Cheers
irate neighbours are forcing many pilots to fly electrics and my hope is that we could recognize this before we loose flying fields all together

You have demonstrated "The bigger picture of my point perfectly." and pointed out the catalyst which will facilitate the change. Control line and RC aircraft once shared the same fields. RC Cars and RC aircraft once shared the same publications. Electrics now have their own publications as well. As you went up the road to fly your big planes you have demonstrated elitistism and the need for dedicated areas. And don't think for a second that as you pointed out that if a club were to loose its field if they continued to run gas engines and their majority flew electrics that the gassers wouldn't be gone.

As far as the Canadian politics goes and I'm not sure why you didn't bring up religion as well, if the Communist Party of Canada, if they are still around, did win all the Federal seats, we would have a Communist Federal Goverment.

Enjoy your ARF's.

Cheers

Forgot to mention, Ajax has a control line circle as well ... not that it's usd very often.
-----
It used to be the heli nuts (I am one so, I feel ok using this term) who complained of this elitist attitude. It still exists in some areas. Again, Ajax has a hover training area and, once forward flight is mastered, helis are welcome to join the fixed wing (seized rotor?) aircraft at the flight line.

Communism is not popular in my local club.

Electrics

Woah ModelBuilder, I think you have misinterpreted what I am saying. I am not elitest. Did I not say I like electrics and gas?!! I am still a member of my old club and will continue to be. The new club is designated for those who own large scale aircraft and on the very odd occasion we might fly a foamy there for giggles. But when you have $3000+ invested into an aircraft and have two or three other pilots flying smaller and faster aircraft, a midair is going to hurt the wallet big time. Thus, we created the new club for those with 80" or larger craft whether they be powered by gas or electric. So I am a bit offended by the reference.

As far as having a battle at a particular club between the electrics and glow/gas crowd, I would be very interested in an example. With reference to politics, I am just saying that a club is about as likely to change itself to all electric as we are to see Canada become communist without some sort of catalyst such as unhappy neighbours. That still won't solve the giant scale/small scale dillema as it pertains to how many aircraft are in the air etc... Now, 15 years down the road, when large scale electrics are similar in cost, more convenient (charging times) and such, then I think the move to electric will happen on its own without any need to change a club's charter. We R/C hobbyists are an intelligent bunch, if it makes sense to do something, it will naturally happen.

As a group, we have been getting pushed further and further away from the urban sprawl. So it will be inevitable that many existing fields, electric or gas, close to developing areas will be supplanted. I welcome electric technology, big or small as it should allow at least some of these fields to remain.

Please don't read any motives such as elitism into my comments. If anything, you are being snobbish/elitist with the comment "Enjoy your ARFs." Who says I or anyone else flies just ARFs? I invite you to our field to see some examples of the fine kit building our members have done.

The world is big for all of us.
