Bad Bad Bad Dad!!!!

Well last night my oldest went for a bike ride just as it was getting dark. I was straightening things out in the garage when I ran across some steel wool. Now this jogged my old memory cells about how we used to fabricate steel wool rats at work and leave them for others to discover. In low light these things look real. Now Windsor city workers have been on strike for some time and the rat problem in some places has gotten much more noticeable. Everyone is keeping an eye open. Now my boy has to push that bicycle between the garage and fence past the garbage bins to put it away and since it would be dark when he returned………….. It took about 15 minutes to fabricate a 10 inch body and appropriate tail. I opened the gate slightly and placed it as if it was sneaking through to get at the garbage. Leaving the back lights on gave it just enough shadow that you could not miss it.

Went to bed to watch a little TV.

About an hour later I hear the front door open, mumbling and finally outside my bedroom door a bit of a breathless voice warns me about sleeping with both eyes closed if I know what’s good for me.

Much giggling (wife and me) ensues and again the voice outside the door warns that he will get both of us.

Re: Bad Bad Bad Dad!!!!

Ok this is how I made the rat.

1. 3 bats of steel wool.
2. Unroll the bats and overlap them length wise as in the picture.
3. Loosely roll them
4. Pull and move the steel wool to blend in any overlapping seams and start to form tail about 1 to 1.5 times length of body.

Re: Bad Bad Bad Dad!!!!

Ok this is how I made the rat.

5. Continue forming body and roll tail to form.
6. Finish rolling tail and forming body. Form head to a point and pull out ears. Rat is done unless you wish to get carried away detailing but since it will be in low level light and seen by surprise it will work really well.
7 and 8 are the rat on my patio after dark.

Have fun but be ready to duck or run.
