Kill Switch

Ok I have a kill switch from Jeff @Thunderbolt RC and I am sure if I sent him a message he would reply. My thought though was that is what RCCanada is all about. Ok back to the switch,I was always lead to believe that anything from a gas motor was to be kept as far away as possible to your radio gear.Plastic throttle linkage ign.batt. at firewall etc etc.So where do I mount this kill switch and the light that tells me its armed. Then of course I still have to run the servo type wire to the receiver that will actually turn it on and off.Probably will need to use the gear switch to turn ign.on and off as I have two servos to ailerons using two channels and then two servos to elevator using another two channels

Re: Kill Switch

Mount the Opto Kill switch (circuit board) as close to the ignition/engine as possible. Try to keep it away from any radio gear as far as possible. The wire that goes from the Opto Kill Switch to the receiver is Optically isolated so it is ok for it to come into contact with your radio gear. The LED can be mounted anywhere you want - some mount it on the fire wall so it can be seen inside the cowl, some mount it in the cockpit, some mount it on the side of the plane. It's really up to you.

Also, you can use regular servo extensions to extend the length of the LED wire, or the wire that goes from the Opto Kill Switch to the receiver.

Re: Kill Switch

Jeff gave all the answers but I would mount the kill switch away from the receiver but not up close to the ignition. Preferably on the opposite side. The opto isolator will do its job but if the board is near the engine than it could bypass the isolator and you could get the interferance on the receiver wire.
Just my way.

Re: Kill Switch

I have the same item from Jeff at Thunderbolt, and it works great. I have mine mounted in the fuse just behind the firewall. My LED is on the right side of the fuse, right next to my ignition switch/charge jack. I think placing it close to your switch is a good idea so there is no question as to what switch belongs to what light etc., etc., and you can tell at a glance and a distance if your ignition is hot.

I'm running 2.4, so I'm not overly concerned about proximity to the RX - although I did space it as far as practical.

Re: Kill Switch

It does not matter what frequency you are on if the noise (interferance) gets into the line it will cause trouble.
