It might have been! It was my first direct drive rudder (rather than pull-pull).
I didn't think touched the tail while hovering on the maiden! (for dale) LOL

The MKS is a tall servo. It is also 81g. The 1270tg is normal high and light 56g.

Big pro is the MKS has a CNC aluminum top case!

Not sure i trust plastic top cases on +400oz servos anymore! Check out these picks...

I was lucky to get the plane down. Thing was wagging like a happy dog! the top bearing was moving more than a 1mm in the split.

Close call John! What kind of load was it trying too run?

I've looked at MKS servos in the past. Made in Japan is a definite plus. I'd be interested in seeing how the metal gear train makes out at 8.4v and on a high load surface.

I don't consider Savox a high end servo, actually as a cheap alternative and I don't really see much difference in the 777 other than the aluminum top case. But not having access too one like yourself, I'll have to read between the "hype" lines once again!!

Let's see what Lorne can do for pricing on 10 of them.

The rudder on the Pilot 330 is a pretty big paddle! Just so i am clear the split servo was a 2230sg, not the 1270tg. I have two planes with 1270tg. No issues. Their not tight like the MKS. They are light if you are on a diet like some of my EM buddies!!! LOL

I've done that with different brands already John, usually to be disappointed.

I will wait...patiently as I've so many reports of servos that are great until someone has trouble with them......then lookout...here comes the bus!! And it sounds like the Savox bus is enroute!!

Ya Jack. Lorne has something like 70 if those MKS777's coming and the E.M. has teamed up and are buying a huge chunk of them.

We were super impressed with the quality of them at Toledo and a really good price. John and I bought a few in Toledo.

A little update on performance ....

1) John is having great luck with his 520oz-in MKS777 on the Pilot 100cc Extra 330 Rudder. For comparison, the Savox 2230 (rated at 580oz-in) didn't have enough power. We've tried the Savox 2231 (520oz-in) and it was surprisingly stronger on the rudder than the 2230. The BLS172 (520oz-in) had no problem and stronger than the Savox's.

2) I've got a couple MKS747's on the elevator on my new jet - they are awesome!!

We're very excited to try the BIG batch of MKS777's coming!!

Downside - they're heavier, like the Futaba BLS, but one place I don't mind a bit of weight

But I agree with your comment Jack.... I've spent thousands trying different servos so far and the only ones that impress me so far are the Futaba BLS's. Savox are have a great selection and good prices and great dealing with Lorne and Jeff, but they're a distant second in my books.

My big question is will the MKS match the Futaba's?? Not sure! I'm not willing to endorse them yet, but they look promising.
