Have you used "Solartex" covering?

I am getting close to the covering stage on my Sig Sealane and am already considering covering choises. From my reading it seems that Solartex (Worldtex I understand is the same stuff) is a good choice. I have also read that some folks suggest spraying on a butyrate dope over it to stop dirt from getting in the weave?

Anyone here with Solartex experience that can shine some light?

Cheers

Mike

For scale stuff Solartex/Worldtex is all I use.... It is by far the best for going around curves... Just like any covering I would recommend using balsarite on the wood first.... I buy it in white and then paint it whatever colour I need..... A little more expensive than crapokote or 3rd century garbagefilm... but well worth it... For scale aircraft...

cf-drg....ditto.

If you don't want to paint.. choose something else. Just cause the fabric is coloured does not mean you just iron it on and leave it. Must be sealed with something to be fuelproof.

Excellent stuff but heavier then plastic films so be forwarned.....

You have to be careful with the cloth type coverings. Sometimes they're not waterproof. A local flyer here has this type of covering on a Unionville Norseman and spray from the floats on takeoff gets through the covering. I agree that it is wonderful stuff to work with though. Covered a Spitfire with it years ago and was fantastic to put on.

Cheers!

I bought some Worldtex from Great Hobbies in Edmonton....nice looking covering.

I understand that once the plane is covered it should have a coat or two of "dope" to seal the weave. Would the dope also seal it from water?

Thanks for the info....I have never worked with dope other than a kid with a tissue/dope covering on a free flight glider...all I remember is it sure smelled good

Is brushing it on an OK method of application? Are there any other products that should be looked at?

Cheers
