Re: Building a FPV plane with Head Tracking/OSD-GPS

I thought I keep you guys updated on Intelligent Flight's Dragon OSD. Daniel Wee, the developer of Dragon is fine tuning his IMU by rewriting the software. At the present the Artificial Horizon is still a tad behind from real time but he is getting close! He's tweaking the software values as I am typing this now. Here is a small video of his 5th test flight. ( )

As for video cameras, I use my Canon ZR70mc to convert kids video to firewire to store it for my daughter. vid in to firewire out direct (must set pass through mode with the remote control)

A guy at our club has a ZR60 (I think) mounted on top of a servo for pan inside his 1/4 scale coroplast piper cub.

Re: Building a FPV plane with Head Tracking/OSD-GPS

Thank you Moo, but I do not see the Youtube button you mention. Would this be in the "Post" then to "Advance" section when posting?

I've got a HUGE list of questions.... so I'll start with this one:

If you are using continuous rotation servos, will they continue to rotate if you look off axis, or do you have to keep "accelerating"(rotational movement) your head to keep the servos in motion.......

i.e., if your camera could pan 360, would you have to rotate your head 360, or just look left/right, with the speed of your movement changing the speed of camera pan....

PS. your tech articles are great!!

Re: Building a FPV plane with Head Tracking/OSD-GPS

Yes my servo are hacked so I can spin not 360 but 180. I use a Hitec HS81 and soldered 1K Ohm (I think) 1/8 watt resistors at the pot to the wires, then carved out the stop notch on the top gear so I can spin the servo 180 with out it locking on me. Simple and cheap hack. Anyhow some of the HS81 servos are not the same in quality and you might have to play with 1 to 2 K Ohm resistors if you wish to try this out. Good thing about it is that there are no added weight to make the servos rotate to this degree. And thanks for the generous comments!
