Re: Spektrum DX8, sweet tx so far!

I believe its an amazing radio, I have the DX7, and I adore it. However I think im going to wait for the higher end JR version for my next radio. For what I need I think its a better option. But I will definitely be recommending this radio to my friends. I love the vibrating voltage warning. thats the best..

Re: Spektrum DX8, sweet tx so far!

Yeah, I checked one out in a shop on friday.
It is sweet. The best feeling radio in my hands I have held. The rubber finger grips on the back was a really nice touch.
The radio felt good, the switches felt good.

And....the curved bottom for those of us with a bit of a belly

The built in telemetry is what takes the cake.

Have you made use of this feature? Besides voltave and temp, what else can it tell you? (rpm??)

I worry about taking my eyes off the plane/heli to glance at the screen. Is this a problem? What they really need is a talking telemetry feature that talks to you at prescribed intervals so you don't have to take your eyes off the plane to know whats going on

Re: Spektrum DX8, sweet tx so far!

Max according to the Spektrum website there's 4 things; battery voltage, signal quality, temp & RPM. It also says that's "initially" so I guess they're promising to add more telemetry data features later? Airspeed, pitch & altitude would be cool and a video output to HUD style video goggles would be even cooler. (just so long as they make sure they don't leave us bespectcaled types out).

Re: Spektrum DX8, sweet tx so far!

I'm in the market for a new radio myself so I have a couple questions.

Other than telemetry and an extra channel what are the benefits over the DX7 SE?

Does it still have that cheap plasticy feel to it?

I did come across someone with somes issues to be aware of:

Those youtube video's are quite informative. I guess for now anyone with this radio should turn of thier vibration feature until Spektrum issues a program upgrade fro the TX. Scary!

No, It felt solid. Had some mass to it. So it didn't have that light cheap plastic feel.
It also had really nice shaped rubber grips for your fingers to wrap around.
Some may not like that, but I did.

Re: Spektrum DX8, sweet tx so far!

Quality control and system testing issues. Imagine if your car or hospital life support did this??

This is a really nice piece of equipment. all the bells and whistles that make it useful and replaceable like a mobile phone.

I wonder how this affects the airplane mode?

It goes to show that even "quality north american companies" can suffer from poor quality. I guess they don't have the testing capacity to catch all these bugs. Or they expect a certain level of losses and accept consumer level testing to expose the issues...

Too bad for all those early adopters. I think I will stick with my DX7 for a while yet.
