AAAaaaaawwwwww............sonuva................

Was testing and tuning my BCPP in the garage, trying to figure out why my DD tail seems to have poor authority with the new brushless main motor. Burned off two lipo's and started back into the house.

Guess what I forgot to do?

That's right, unplug the pack.

I left the radio on too................

As I was walking through the door, the radio got bumped and hit the idle up switch. Luckily, I was carrying the heli by the fly bar and when she throttled up I had a firm hold of it. The tail boom rotatd up against my leg and it tried to get away. I had no choice but to hold it. if I had let it got, the CF blades would have beat me, the dog, the house and itself to pieces.

After some nasty grinding noises, I managed to get the radio turned off without loosing the heli.

The brass motor gear stripped the plastic main shaft gear in dozens of different places.

Sounds like a good excuse to do the autorotation gear modification.........

Lessons learned:

1. After flight, immeditely disconnect the heli battery

2. Turn off the radio immediately after unplugging the heli battery.

I know, I know..................Newb.......................

Re: AAAaaaaawwwwww............sonuva................

throttle hold is my favorite option. Everytime i land i turn it on. I've cut up my leg back in the day from a mistake like that and since made a habbit of using TH switch. Saves you money and body parts

Lesson learned as you said. You got lucky eh, can only imagine what you where thinkin as you tried holding it LOL

(EDIT: BCPP im not sure if stock radio has throttle hold or not i always used my DX7 with my old BCPP.)

Re: AAAaaaaawwwwww............sonuva................

It does have throttle hold and that would have been a decent idea. Flipping it on on landing is a good idea before getting close enought o unplug the battery.

It wasn't hard to hold. but I was just thinking what the title says while it ground itself a few new "cogs" on the main gear.......

Lesson learned! Enough said...

Glad you are fine, although, the heli may need mending?

Re: AAAaaaaawwwwww............sonuva................

Bad day?

Nah, just a lesson learned.

And, if you look for the "silver lining", I now get to install the autorotation mod...........

Most people see bad days and setbacks.

I just see oppertunities for improvement and learning..........

Re: AAAaaaaawwwwww............sonuva................

I know its all a matter of personal preference but i suggest investing your money in a t-rex 450 or even a mini titan. i find the bcpp is one of the worse helicopters to fly with. I've seen some nicely hopped up bcpp helis but still when i flew them it still felt nasty to fly.

Re: AAAaaaaawwwwww............sonuva................

Good day gents..I had a similar incedent with a Bell 47, had the ground of the mag doing some trouble shooting and hit the starter to crank the engine over. Next thing I know the engine is running, slipping the clutch and no means to shut it off.. I was however smart enough to scamble under the machine and ground the mag before any damage occured. I'll tell you an unmuffled 430 cubic inch gets your attention when your not planning to start it.. Ok it's not quite the same exept maybe for the AAAAaaaawwwww.... Sonuva.....:0)

Take Care and I'm glad to here you are ok,, I have a buddy with a good chunk of his arm muscle missing because a gas heli was throttled up by mistake and he tried to stop it.

All the best Riverdancer

Yeah, that would suck.

I may the decision a lng time ago that if my raptor was ever to roll over or run away, I'd get to cover and just let it beat itself to death instead of trying to stop it.

I wouldn't be happy, but I can always build another one. Can't grow another finger or eye........
