With all the activity around here this summer I haven't been able to fly for quite awhile. Well today I had some spare time AND the weather was just spectacular. Free time, a clear, hot, sunny afternoon and zero wind. This has NEVER happened all together on the same day before!

Excitedly I plugged in a couple of radios and planes onto the chargers to top them up. While I waited I just had to satisfy some of my anxiousness about heading out to the field and burning up a jug of methanol, I figured I had better see how stiff and knotted my thumbs were before getting out the big iron. I had just the candidate for this immediate need for some flight. I pulled the Formosa down from the ceiling and tossed it up into the parking lot out front. As I had done many times before. Yup, things were a little fuzzy but I got it sorted out in short order. Ahhhh, what a NICE day.

The fun went on and it soon came time to land. I sent the formosa out over the far corner of the parking lot and banked it around preparing the approach - as I had done many times before. It was amazing. The light pole out in that corner which had never been a problem before, suddenly became an impassable obsticle. My depth perception was off (too damn nice of a day, too clear, too calm). In an attempt to sort out the distance - I banked left ..... I banked right - so when my eyes told my brain that the plane must have already passed the pole I leveled it out to begin a smooth descent.

Then WHAM! 25 feet up the pole the poor little formosa took it in the shoulder. Just like your cartoon character slowly slides down whatever he just ran into -- the formosa literaly wrapped its fragmented fuselage and wing around the pole and slowly slide straight down. It was actually pretty funny.

My beautiful wife was out on the front lawn with a book and watched this happen. When she looked at me dumfounded and asked me what happened, I did my best to hold in my laughter. Instead I grumbled and said: "It's too nice out here, what a crappy day to fly RC. If there isn't a stiff or bucky wind it is no fun"

I retrieved the fragments and brought them in to the workbench. I unplugged all the other chargers. I proceeded to the fridge and scooped a kingsized can of Pilsner. I then joined my wife on the blanket on the lawn and just watched the kids play for the rest of the afternoon. <--- that's what nice days like today are for!

Claude, it was nice here in Nova Scotia too. My wife, my two daughters and I went down to the Halifax waterfront for a walk on the boardwalk and to get a Cow's Icecream. (If you ever get to visit NS or PEI, you HAVE to get a Cow's Icecream. You haven't lived until you've had one of these icecream cones!). We then went to Montana's restaurant for lunch and then headed home. It was a very pleasant and relaxing day.

Reid's Dairy for the Loonie or Twonie Shakes (brain-freeze if your straw doesn't collapse)..

Doing the Bay of Quinte Jet Rally means a side-trip off of the main drag exit from the 401 to visit the Reid's Dairy Castle and suck back on a dollar's worth of cheap thrill.

Of course, there are now Reid's Dairy stores all over Southern Ontario. The Newmarket and Aurora stores get a lot of my business....

Was nice in my area as well, So we went to the Milton Steam Era show. Lots of steam powered tractors, and engines. Had a steam powered ice cream cone, took a ride on an old huge tractor with the wife and 3 kids. Then My family and I and my friend and his family went to Montanas in Milton for some dinner. It was overcast and cooled down, but we had a great day none the less.
