Those in Free Flight use tracking systems which, though initially costly, pay for themselves tenfold when one considers that some models are worth thousands of dollars and even those of lesser value have a time input in their construction that is hard to put a price on.

Mine has speedily retrieved models from woods, cornfields, beanfields and dense 'bush', the longest retrieve from a wood almost 20 miles away.

For RC models (which surely are not meant to be lost????) it could be worth a club purchasing a receiver and members the transmitters on varied frequencies .

I just noticed this thread. I have listed under "FS - Electronics" , under the title "For Sale - Rev.Cable, Plane Finder, Cox Glow Head" a locator for $10.00.

This one works after approximately 18 minutes after it senses power.

Example, you plug it into a spare channel on the receiver (or a "Y" cable). When the receiver is turned on, it gets power and starts its timer. If you haven't landed the plane in 18 min. and turned of the receiver, the alarm goes off.

I also understand other websites have instructions for how to build one.

JR used to make a NEB-480 unit which worked as a beeper/ battery monitor. If receiver loses signal, it beeps. A red and green LED indicated battery status. Plugs into a spare channel too. I don't think they are available anymore, I wonder why?
