I am new to the hobby and have never stripped an engine.
How do I disconnect the piston rod from the crank?
I have removed the head and the end cover but can see no way to release the rod.
There is a solid looking bushing almost up against the crank shaft flange, and the ring on the propellor shaft has no shoulder to enable it to be removed.

In order to get proper advice you need to give more information.

Why are you taking an engine apart?
What engine is it?
What is the problem with it?

That might be a good start. Those who are able to give advice will make suggestions and may indeed ask even more questions.

Ken's post is truly valid. However stripping an engine generally goes like this. Remove the glo-plug. Remove the head. Remove the backplate. It should now be possible to slide the sleeve out of the case. There should now be enough room to slide the rod with piston attached to the rear, off the crankpin and out through the top of the case. The shaft can now be driven out of the bearings through the rear of the case.

The foregoing is a basic procedure for two stroke engines. Four strokes are a little more complex. Hence Ken's question. "What engine is it?"
