Re: Multi Rotor Beginner!

Just wrote a long response, and my iPad lost it! So, this will be short.

Q1: DJI F450 with Naza-M v2 MCU, GPS, Zenmuse H3-2D gimbal (if you want to record with a hero 3 camera). I wanted something that wasn't straight out of the box on the one hand, but didn't want to experiment with new algorithms on the other hand, while putting my expensive rig at risk.
Q2: 4 (quadcopter)
Q3: yes, wind does affect flight. However, with Naza and GPS, you can set in any of the following 3 modes: Manual, Attitude-maintaining, Position-maintaining. So, slowly learn how to fly, and increase your manual mode flying over time.
Q4: Check out cruddbucket on YouTube. He gave a great breakdown on everything you'll want for FPV, including costs. His rig is based on the following from Fatshark (or an older version of this, can't remember).

Re: Multi Rotor Beginner!

I'm new to multirotors and flying in general for that matter. I have a blade 350 qx. It can fulfill most of your questions and needs. I don't have any experience with FPV but others have. I am really enjoying it.

Re: Multi Rotor Beginner!

When someone asks "what is the 'best'.... it always becomes a pissing contest between people who each have their own opinion on what is "best"

'Best' is also a function of $$. Best price or best value?

I recommend a good 450 or larger quad. Quad because its pretty smooth and only 4 motors to worry about as opposed to 6 or 8.

Your best bet is do your homework and look around. What is more important is a good flight controller, especially if you want to get into FPV. I personally like the Naza with GPS/Compass. Plug and play and idiot proof.

FPV is a whole other kettle of fish. Check out the FPV section for advice on FPV gear. Again, ask a simple "best" question and get 1000 answers- best suggestion there is to read up on a few systems and hopefully hook up with someone who is doing it and use what they are using- its the easiest and best way to be successful in FPV

Re: Multi Rotor Beginner!

Worth playing with the micro quads too. Cheap and safe, and can be flown via fpv

Lots of quads to choose from. I would take a serious look at the tbs discovery pro for a quad superior to dji but still running naza. Of course costs more too. I am very Impressed by the promised flight times of the Phantom 2nd. Quads demand high end batteries and the new phantom and tbs have the most advanced battery options.

I like the fatshark attitude kit with immersion rc video for beginners. Just makes it all so easy for noobs. But look at the advanced options for the tbs disco to see great ideas for higher end, expandable longer range video and uhf

Re: Multi Rotor Beginner!

Yup...loaded question...
If I was going to start again I would NOT buy a Phantom although I would go with NAZA.
I would buy a good radio...Futaba etc. and then I would build something for sure. You learn so much more when you build vs buy off the shelf.
TBS Disco, QAV 400 or 500 would be top choices although DJI 450 and 550 are good as well. For FPV...immersion 5.8 MHz will get you started...
