NEED MORE ENGINE HELP

Howdy again.

Trying to get the bearings off my YS .45.

One stuck in the front of the case and one stuck on the crankshaft, which has been removed.

Tried heating with heat gun, tried cooling with water, tried hitting with wood, tried speaking new words. Not working.

No blow torch. No Canadian Tire. Late Saturday night. Want to finish now.

Help. Need help.

Do the bearings really need to be removed?

The bearing stuck in the case is the front bearing, correct? A heat gun does not have enough heat. If you do not have a blow torch then put the case in the oven at 250F for a while. Tap the front on a piece of wood and the bearing will drop out. Before you do the oven thing strip the case down completely.

The rear bearing on the shaft is a different matter. Is there enough space between the bearing and the web to slip a couple of strips of metal through, rest them on an open vice say and tap the shaft out? If not you will need a bearing puller. It will be decision time for that one. You will be pulling on the outer race against the balls. This could result in damage to the race or flat spots on the balls. Ensure you have a new bearing ready.

Hi, Ed.

They have some rust on them, and they're about 4 years old.

Regardless, if they didn't before, they do now after all my heavy-handed attempts to get them out...

To ease the rear bearing off the crank, what abotu putting the crank into the freezer for a bit, then taking it out and quickly heating the around the bearing while tapping the crank (lightly).. the difference in size by the cold crank and now warm bearing may be enough to let it break loose.

If you are not trying to re use the bearing, then you can be a lot more aggressive when trying to get it out.

The oven trick works great to remove bearings from the ccase...

Got them!

Wow, that was just not fun.

I hope my new high performance bearings are worth it.
