For what it's worth here's my conversion from glow to electric of a Lanzo Bomber. The model came to me through a stroke of luck so I can't take credit for building it. My friend said "Here you take it, it should be a good project to put an electric motor on"
It obviously flown prior with a glow engine that was removed. No gear wire or wheels either so I had to put that on.
Next was to install a Turnigy 2826-1200 Brushless outrunner and Super Simple 30 amp controller.
I did a little cutting and added a few pieces and a lite ply firewall to accept the motor and sling the battery underneath. Controller also hanging in the wind.
It was all a bit of a gamble/experiment trying out such a budget priced motor and controller. Even with an 85 cent dollar all the parts and prop came to about 40 CDN. How does it all work? Well it works great at least for this type of leisure flying. With a 10-5 APC type prop the current draw is around 25 amps from the 3S 2200ma lipo, WOT.
The Bomber will climb out very steeply if you want it too. Otherwise takeoff requires no more than 1/2 throttle and it will get to height quick enough.
Some of you have probably seen the Super Simple controller for 8.99. It's plug and play. A good bench test of 3 full battery cycles convinced me it was OK. The motor is a powerhouse.
The work here isn't the fanciest, I just build to fly and not to win a beauty contest. Would be intersting to see how others have done it. So far have about 6 flights in with this setup. Total weight is 2 lbs- 6 oz.
